all 4 of mine had come in but they were so far back it was hard to keep them clean, my new dentist wanted to take them out. i was awake for the entire procedure, it was the most suckiest experience. the sound of the teeth being ripped out of my jaw ill never forget.

QUOTE (GriffGirl @ Oct 22, 2008 - 11:57 AM) *
I even wound up taking my own stitches out (they don't dissolve well if the knot is too big).

I did the same thing which freaked my mom out a lot.

I had all 4 out at once & got knocked out with an IV which hurt like hell since the dumb nurse didn't put it in right the 1st time mad.gif
I argued with the doctor & nurses how IV's hurt way worse than getting tattoos till i finally got knocked out (i'm sure they were glad i got knocked out)
I remember fighting the nurse for a blanket after I woke up.
My jaw was bruised for a week afterwards.
At least I got Percodan ... it was interesting painting a house on that stuff ... made paint brushes & everything go in slow motion.

Before my wisdom teeth, when I was 13 I had to have 4 other teeth removed at once so I could get braces to fix my fcuked up teeth ... My pointy upper teeth were stuck up in my gums & I looked like a vampire kindasad.gif

They knocked me out for the procedure. I remember the doctor telling me to count backwards from 10 when giving me the anesthesia. And in my mind I was say "fight it, see how long you can stay awake!" The last number I remember saying was 4, and it was out cold.

When I started to wake up, I could feel the strings being tied to close up the incision. So over all the doctor was hardcore and timing the procedure perfectly.

Afterwards I had to go through all that nasty blood/spit and no solid food experience. yuck, so glad that was over with.

I was not asleep. That is all I will say... Sure, I was sedated but not enough and it was bad times.
They were talking about E.R.

Then they gave me valium and codiene and I got to sleep for 8 hours.

So, I got the whole procedure described to me and it sucks fat nuts.

But I opted for the jaw sedation and some premeds, it's gonna be some sort of opiate. The real question is how much I could make off of that in the street. laugh.gif

I.V. Valium FTW I tell ya, Valium FTW

(and no I'm not posting pix of said great rack. You seemed to have skimmed over the "back in the day" qualifier. I'm a lot older now - we're going back seriously, like 15 years. 15 years of gravity isn't all that kind to said rack.

At least you got knocked out. I was wide awake when they cracked my teeth with something that looked like a crowbar. Yes, I got to hear my teeth CRACK. Then I got my neck jerked around as the dentist tried to pry the broken teeth out of their sockets. Fun.

And for pain, I got a prescription for Tylenol double strength (OTC, not even prescription). The only "good" thing about the whole ordeal was that they only needed to take out 2 of my bottom teeth and that my mouth was swollen for only 1 week afterward.

Ok so today i just went under the knife and had my wisom teeth cut out. the way they knocked me out was crazy haha. he put like 5 different shots in me and i was like what if this doesnt work and once he talked everything sounded like a robotic echo. i heard the rubber gloves put on adn all this talking that was robotic. but he said that if it doesnt work they have a big mallet in the back and i chuckled at the joke and i dont remember anyhting after that. my mom was there to be my DD cause once u wake up from this stuff u have no idea what was goin on. i guess i hugged the once hot nurse and kept hittin on her. and then i would swear sometimes and told them about my tattoo and all this stuff. i dont remember any of it. But after the fun was over everything started to get worse. IT SUCKS haveing them taken out. i look like a damn chipmonk and i cant eat my hard foods i love so much frown.gif But anyway, iw as jsut wondering who on 6gc had them out and if they ahd any funny stories or horror stories about em

Woop woop

Well i had all 4 surgically removed. When i went in for my consult i brought my girlfriend with me(important later)
They just gave me some awesome gas to knock me out, when i started counting backwards from 10, i made it 9 and i was done:) I woke up sometime later in the afternoon, confused as all get out but wasnt in alot of pain. I ended up going out and disc golfing with my friends later and eating milkshakes for dinner for a few days lol

By the time i had the surgery my girlfriend and i had broken, but she still came with me and my mom to the surgery cause she is cool like that. I went to call her the next day to thank her for going with me and that it meant alot to me... it took her 4 days to return my calls... i couldnt figure out what was going on. when i she finally called be back she explained... well i guess after we got back to my house i decided i was going to walk her to her car. So how she tells the story is that i broke down and started crying telling her all this stuff about us dating and getting back together and going to college together, making her cry, and then the convo turned bad and i started calling her not nice names. Well i still dont remember any of that but i guess it happened lol

Moral of the story, dont be around anyone untill way later in the day lol

now, let's wind up the way-back machine and let me tell you how i had mine done 30 years ago.

after dealing with a nasty swollen face from a wisdom tooth trying to push through the jawbone, my MD sent me to an oral surgeon for extraction of all 4. the x-rays (yes smartass, they had be discovered. even way back then.) showed serious impaction and it was a no-brainer. so off i go to the hospital on the first day of summer vacation. to say that everything went well would be a bald-faced lie. here is a brief resume of what my MD told me they had to do to get those pesky pearly whites out of my mouth. they cut, they dug, they chipped and drilled but to no avail. at one point the surgeon was on his knees atop my chest and pulling with both hands. they managed to get it done and all they left were a couple deep (read troublesome) pockets behind 2, 15, 18 and 31--two black eyes, a face only a chipmunk's mother would love, also a bruised sternum and a sprained neck. no lie, i had to wear a brace for 4 weeks--in summer, in my 16th year, with hormones raging and teen-aged beer drinking parties to attend. luckily this all went down while i was under general anaesthesia and had really good post-op drugs (don't remember what kind, probably codeine/Valium/ASA combo).

that being said i would still go through it tomorrow rather that doing what i did to myself last month. i broke a molar (30) on a popcorn kernel. my dentist said "that should never happen" and i agreed wholeheartedly. i managed to split it longitudinally right down to the root. have you ever had an exposed dental root? it FRIGGIN' (not the word i wanted to use) hurts. i could go on but that's for another post.

so remember kids-- brush daily and floss regularly and if you need to get oral surgery done, get the best drugs your budget will allow.

peace

PS Griff, you are perfect just as you are (BTW there is no such thing as gravity...the Earth sucks!) I just wish i had bumped (oh! pun! ouch!) into you back then.
lotsa love, luv

c'ya
