My brakes are creaking really badly when I am in a forward motion and hitting the brakes. But in reverse this doesn't happen. Anyone know the cause? I've changed brake pads and rotor about 6months ago, as far as I know, I havent done anything to merit a warp rotor... but than again i could be wrong.

did you resurface the rotor?? or maybe those warning pins bent inwards and are now contacting with the rotor??? did you also install those anti-rattle shims thingy??

maybe a caliper clip could be rubbing against the caliper if there is rotor or hub runout. try taking the tire off and rotating the rotor to see if the pad moves side to side.

Sorry to hijack, but what would be the cause for squeaking drums? I think my front discs are fine, I just hear the drums in back...

Brake dust causes squeaking drums. Well not quite squeaking, but more of a loud high pitched... rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Lotsa dust gets caught up in those things. Could also be time for new brake shoes, depending if yours have ever been replaced or not (they last a really long time since most of the load is on the front brakes).

I have no idea if they've been replaced at all...quite frankly, I never even had a mechanic check anything, just assumed the dealer handled everything.

I'm assuming the "cherry" car they sold didn't have any imperfections...I was mostly right. biggrin.gif

11 yrs old w/70k in itself qualifies it as cherry unless it's a salvaged title tongue.gif

If you've got the money, this would be a perfect opportunity to do the rear drum-to-disc conversion. It's not that much more than having to replace the drums and shoes anyway - drums and shoes cost more than pads and rotors. That is, of course, assuming you're doing the labor yourself and not paying someone to do it.

I wouldn't entirely trust myself with the labor, nor do I really think it's necessary. I tend to drive carefully, so stopping power isn't a giant concern to me. *knocks on wood* I would drop cash into other areas first...I still have to small dents to get out first, but they shouldn't cost me much more than $100.

That's a good approach to take; I can appreciate that!
