i need some help. i'm doing the custom ct-26 turbo setup. i know i have to gap the spark plugs to .030 like the 3s-gte. which plugs should i get? also, what kind of oil should i use. i am going to use synthetic, but does it matter what kind and what weight? thanks, i should have the project done in a couple of weeks. also, how do i control boost levels? how do i know how many psi i am running without just running it and reading the boost gauge?
thanks, adam -------------------- MISS THE CELI, BUT...

Adam,
I would use NGK BKR7EVX-11 or NGK-BKR6EK plugs and gapped them at .030-.035". The oil i run is 10w30, but i do not use synthetic (tip:if you do use synthetic you shoud not try to switch back to regular oil!!!!) I would rather change my oil every 1000-1500 miles and know the oil is fresh, rather than expect synthetic oil to last longer and take a chance! but that is my opinion.... the "regular oil" breaks down easier and will turn into like a thick black oose if you wait too long to change it. Oil gets alot hotter from the turbo and it will cook. (This is one reason why there are turbo timers to help the turbo cool down) No matter what, you do not want to leave any kind of oil in too long and not change it (especially in a turbo-charged car). And as for your boost...i am not sure what you are asking??? You can read the boost level right off the gauge to get a pretty accurate reading, why you would not want to look at the gauge I can not understand?. To control boost without getting a boost controler you can shim the wastegate actuator for a little more boost!! If that what you wanted to know?? See what a few more people say about your questions to back up what i have told you. Maybe someone else can add info or clear up some things that i have told you. Hope this helps, DG If nobody else helps you out..... pm me if you need to know more ...and if you leave me a phone # i can call ya when my phone is free and walk you through anything you need help with. I just like to help everyone ...so take advantage of that if you are not sure "about anything" and ask for help ...or just an opinion! -------------------- ![]() |

if your using the setup off a mr2 then the wastegate is going to be cramped like mine but dont not alte it in any way casue i took the screw out of the bracket and that put the wastegate in a bind and it opened the first few times but then it got hung and I boosted a grave amount which in turn blew my head gasket but like I said man your more than welcome to come down and see my project in the next week cause me and the mechanic or doing it and your like about a hour and half from me.
1. gap plugs to .030 2. a blend of full syn is good....i use castrol 3. 93 octane 4. MAP sensor 5. some injectors but optional depending on how much boost 6. I would replace your fuel filter 7. upgrade to a bigger fuel pump but also optional You can get a manual boost controller for cheap off ebay and **** but the stock wastegate is set to 7 PSI meaning thats the most you can run without having a controller. Greddy and othes make electronis ones but their like 300-500! I didnt have a controller and I was controllering my boost with a BOV. If you set the BOv to go off easy youll be runing lik 4-6 or so on....you can tell by your boost guage. I have a TURBO XS and i love the sound of it! Another thought i havent done it yet or anything but it looks to work perfect. Since we have 2 o2 sensors and you have the second one in your cat....use the stock cat and not the 3sgte one and extend your 02 sensor line and then all you have to do is cut your stock exhaust and rotate the flange and weld it back on and it fits up.....thats what i plan to do since im tight on money but its better to run a bigger exhaust Hope some of this helps man! -------------------- 99 Toyota Tacoma

Natural oil can go longer than 3,000 miles, synthetic can go to around 7,500. However I dont recommend that and I change my synthetic every 3,000. I also am using the NGK plugs.

you will need some sort of fuel system upgrade if you want to boost. an NA car is never ment to have more than 1 atmosphere of pressure and because of that even if you turbo the NA car, the car's ecu will want to either fuel cut(caused by MAP) or only give enough fuel for an NA setup.
an fmu is the cheaper and faster way to upgrade the fuel system, although i have heard that the GT fuel system maxes out at 160hp(replace the fuel pump at that point) you could go with bigger injectors but then you would need something to control the injectors(safc). Jason, what kind of fuel upgrades do you have? im not 100% sure on the 5sfe but with the 7afe, fuel work is 100% required -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

You can get by with the 2 bar and 7mge injectors for the fuel system. The 5sfe injectors max out at about 160hp so if you want more you will have to get bigger ones. 98celica3, How long have you been concidering this project? Please please please know whay you are doing before you start. I have a sticky at the top for a guide. Please read all the links up there. If you had you would already know how to control boost. I not trying to be an ass I just dont want to see what happned to Jason happen to you. -Bryan- -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

I spent a year researching and another gathering parts. This isn't a jumpin head first project and Im afraid people are seeing it that way. I have spent about $2500 in parts and can see a good $500 or more in the future. -Bryan- -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

I have a question to add to the mix about the fuel upgrade.. Ok , who has actually put 7mge injectors in their 5sfe? And if this was successful then what serial number did the injectors have stamped on them. I looked into this upgrade and found that the connection setup is different. The plugs for the 5sfe do not fit in the 7mge injectors that i bought!!!! If anyone can help, let me know any info on that ...feel free to send any help my way. I would really like to hear from someone who has personally upgraded their fuel injectors and installed everything theirself!!!!
Thanks guys, DG -------------------- ![]() |
