I will just say this once. 6gc is becoming less visited by me, and some others i used to see.

I laugh at D-man comments. I shake my head with RJB. but at the everything is well balanced.

honkong, RJB, they may have different opinions or looks. D Man is out of this world. without them there would be no fun topics to read.. laugh.gif

I feel like we are attacking people now, as complaints are a direct hit.

Really, and seriously cwm13.gif , if its not the fact that i want to see what D-man posts, i would not log in for many days, because frankly nobody is interesting in helping anybody else. Everybody is selling their cars, and posting their new cars.

It is becoming depressing, more and more. People leaving and stuff. All this rant, yes this is private site. I respect that, but it relieves me of my daily stress, and i think i have more stress that half the people over here.

I love my celica, i drive it everyday, and its better with this site, because it helps me take care of it. But lets not ruin this site.

This place is nor a circus, nor a church. Lets keep it balanced.

is hongkong me? or did someone join while i was absent and have a similiar name?

i love how 99% of the people who complain are new members, whove been here less than a year.

its always that way for some reason...lmao

do you even know who the last person who was banned WAS?

RJB? wink.gif

This stuff comes up periodically. I got on the bandwagon one of the last times it came up too. But ya know, really, it's not worth getting all worked up about. I think everyone needs to STFU and just be cool until Coomer releases his update/upgrade/feature thing. Really guys - there's bigger fish to fry than who posts what in OT. Ultimately, yeah - it's private bandwidth and we all get to be here for free. To me that means if you don't like the rules, move on. Otherwise, we could all use the reminder once in a while to chill the f**k out and help keep this site a quality site. When lame useless crap starts appearing under the site header when Celica stuff is googled, you know it's BAD TIMES.

As for some of the new (and not so new, including myself, I know) people posting useless posts - no, they're not a really direct contribution to the community. But if lurking is how they get to learn anything of use, they can apply it in their own lives and in turn make useful posts in the future. I lurked on here without posting much of anything at all for like 4 months. I'd like to think that the more time I spend on here, the more I learn, and in turn, the more I'm able to contribute.

Find a useful balance.

Yes, you guys say that you welcome new members, but I do not see this implemented, I honestly don't.

I do get what you are saying about people spamming the boards, it makes your job and other mod's jobs more difficult, and it gets very annoying when good threads get messed up because of immaturity and back and forth crap.

And for the record I'm not trying to start "beef" with you or anyone else, I'm just saying that from the way I see it as a noob, everyone here with "seniority" bullies the new guys.

Edit: i think im getting further and further off this topic about off topic, lol. kindasad.gif

^^ and this is coming from a guy who has been warned multiple times about post whoring, and now gets it.

those of you who dont get it, should really take heed to what he said.

sam, i encourage you to point out specificly where i have NOT helped and welcomed new members where i can, and where i have bullied new members, or old members for that matter.

i dont "bully" anyone, i enforce the rules that we have to follow on this site.
if someone cannot follow them, or more importantly dont WANT to follow them, there are pleanty of other celica sites out there to go ahead and join.

I'm not about to go and point out everyone's faults and flaws, and I never said you specifically were the culprit either.

I know you have to enforce the rules, and I applaud the job you do for the most part.

OK

I think we can all avoid these mods vs. members discussions if we keep some form of ethics or morals in mind when we post. Like the, "don't say anything if you don't have something nice to say," but that doesn't mean you should hold in your opinion either. I think that's where we're getting hung up, with extreme opinions, and there are some people who like to make their extreme opinions known.

Secondly, I think for those who get offended or those who hit the "report this post" button, instead of just making the mod close what could have been a good thread*, perhaps make it known to that person what offended you, that way they know for next time what may be offensive you know? If no one tells them how are they to know?

*I'm not saying some threads don't deserve to be closed because some really DO.

presure2- I apologize, maybe bullying wasn't the correct word. word choices>me tonight. Perhaps its annoyed, and I don't blame you if you or anyone else is somewhat annoyed with new members if all it entails is cleaning up after them and useless clutter.

Sever- you make the most EPICCCC threads. lol.

wow i didnt expect this to get so in depth. I apologize if i pissed some mods off. i just needed to start the thread and see how many people were thinkin the same way i was. I respect EVERYONE on this forum. Ive learned this by being an ass to random stranger back in the day and it turns out that he is one of the coolest guys ive talked to. Everyone on this forum deserves respect. and also deserves to not get disrespected on an opinion they might have. Sure some of you really dont like other members. but you dont have to post a negative comment or remark about that member. I saw we /thread and wait to see these "big features" b4 we really offend someone on the forum

Wow, after reading all of this... I completely changed my mind.

At first, I agreed with sever, i also felt like.. why the huge commotion and strict rules on the OT section? Why are so many threads locked? Why are so many threads deemed "inappropriate"? Why can't we just talk about whatever we want?

But, as I read through this thread, I came to a realization and a revelation. 6gc is a car forum that's STRICTLY focused on 6 generation celicas. Pointless threads are well, pointless. We're not here to blabber about online crap, or complain about life. We're here to talk about CARS! One of the best arguments made was that this is a PRIVATE forum, privately funded at least, so we have to adhere to the rules set by the owner and the moderators if we are to be part of this exclusive forum.

So yeah, I won't post pointless threads in the OT section anymore.

I'm definitely looking forward to the updates on the site, but until then, I think I'll be visiting here less frequently because yeah, the 6gc forum is not the place to talk about whatever we want, its a place to discuss 6gcs.

Thank you mods for keeping it clean biggrin.gif

I have just observed, of course coming from my experience too that new members are mostly on the off topic threads because.... here it goes... they don't know much about the 6g yet, and they just want to contribute or be a part of a thread and be recognized. And how will they do that? comment on off topic threads but sometimes they get out of hands and just needs some reminders, as they go along and learn they contributes to the more helpful threads. yea?

edit: note that I'm not consenting or defending any thread whoring but simply explaining.

i do agree with most of that. but YES this is a car forum but this is also a social place. we all share the same love for the celica. thats why we are on here. but for me, i like to bond with people in more ways than just cars. so thats why i like the OT section. i can get to know members and just make some new friends. If this site was all uptight and serious i doubt alot of people would still be on here. sure some seriousness is needed to run a site like this. but the OT section and the funny comments by some members make it worth while. Blabbering about online crap is Off topic. there nothin wrong with that unless its inappropriate. but the complaing about life you should def just talk to a friend in person and keep that away from the forum.

Bored at work, so here I am. Anywho...

QUOTE (njccmd2002 @ Nov 20, 2008 - 4:57 PM) *
6gc is becoming less visited by me.

That applies to me as well. I'm usually here to check out the meet threads, see what's for sale (that's how I got my fuel pump and AFC Neo), skim Manny's, Shannon's, and Stef's build thread, exhange some PMs with people, and that's about it. Meaning I'm here maybe 5-10 minutes every few days. Most new posts I've seen have been reposts of reposts of threads that were posted a little further down the page. Almost everything that needs to be known could be found by searching and/or in the STICKIES in each section granted some of them could use a bit of an update.

As for the forums being privately funded: It doesn't necessarily have to be (at least I don't think so). For example, another forum I'm on, the lead Admin who is currently hosting the forum on a server in his home, wanted to update the hardware and just make the forums better in general through software and hardware. He mentioned how much it would cost to do so and a few of the members thought it would be a good idea to set up a way where the members could contribute and donate to help out, so thus a paypal account was set-up to help out the forums and it's been going fine so far.

*shrug* just my 2/100 of a dollar.

We can talk about the same thing forever, but we all know it's just a case of balancing fun with seriousness and usefulness. We try our best to keep the balance right, but we obviously can't please all of the people all of the time...

I don't want people to stop posting anything OT, of course it's good to talk about other stuff now and again, but this site is different to most others in that the main focus is on the cars. In my experience, most other sites consist of people just waiting for someone to post so they can flame them and show how hilarious they are and how many fail pictures they have in their photobucket account kindasad.gif

And as for noobs getting flamed... if you think this site is bad, you need to look around a bit. There are tons of people willing to help new people! We actively moderate threads where people get flamed. As long as people have made a reasonable effort to search for themselves, which is fair enough right?

Now, pleeeease keep posting and making threads and keep 6GC a useful, interesting and friendly community thumbsup.gif

yeah sever, thats what i want as well, but the thing is, we have to adhere to the rules that the mods and owner imposes upon us. so.. if they say it doesnt go, then it doesnt go.

btw, i had a quick idea, why not just have the OP label the topic (NSFW) in the title if it even MIGHT be inappropriate, then it'd be up to our own discretion to view the topic, just an idea.
