Hey everybody, I have had my 94 celica gt for about a year and have been ok with its acceleration, but I have been researching other cars (and trucks lol) and realizing that it is fairly slow in comparison. I love the way our cars handle and maybe that is all they are good for. I was wondering what it takes for our cars to hit mid 15 runs. I have read all the stickees and have researched 6gc's pretty thoroughly. It seems that stock my Gt should run around a 17 second run, but bolt ons (intake and exhaust) do not greatly reduce perforance in our cars. Without going forced induction or a swap will an intake and exhaust get me in the mid 15 range. Is there anyone on here that consistantly hits these numbers and isn't using forced induction or swapped. I currently just have a intake and am wondering if spending the money on a exhaust is worth it.

I currently just have a intake and am wondering if spending the money on a exhaust is worth it. well our cars are definitely not meant for straight line power and speed...that is from the factory. I'm almost certain that doing a full exhaust overhaul on your gt will not drop your trap speed by 2 seconds would probably be the most notable gain for the money. With the balanced hp and torque our motors have they are ideal for autocross events as well as track event. The handling is where they really shine and they definitely aren't the slowest things out there. If you are trying to drop your time the best thing to do would be to decide in what direction you are going. N/A forced induction etc. This will determine part availability as well as cost and future choices. Example its kinda pointless to do header and full exhaust with a N/A setup if you have plans to do forced induction in the near future because you will need a turbo manifold and probably choose to go with larger diameter piping for the overall exhaust. If you do any kind of build save your money do the research and buy the best parts not the cheapest. It'll pay off in long run. Its better to have a reasonable and reliable build than a cheap unreliable build that you may wind up pouring more money into. Hope this helps. -------------------- |

Aside from what was posted ^^^^^ alot of it is reaction time to the lights... You maybe taking longer to hit the pedal than you realize, practice on lights in your area(best done at night) You can watch the other lanes lights turn to yellow then watch yours... You dont have to pound the pedal, you can, but your should be focusing on getting the motions down as fast you can... Once that is perfect, and quick, the rest is up to your car, and what you put into it.

Thanks for the replies. I am planning a exhaust using a 2.5 in/out high flow cat, and 2.5 straight pipes into a straight through flow 2.5 muffler. Hopefully this will lower my times.

lol a full exhaust and intake really wont make much difference at all, you could get your car bored out or have the cams regrinded, a light weight fly wheel, and thats costly so you're better of not spending the money, don't get me wrong a intake and exhaust is worth it for sound and fun but if you really want to get down 2 seconds then get an engine swap or turbo.
I have an aussy magazine where a celica with the 5sfe did 1/4 in 17 seconds so that seems about right, I've heard that it should do it in 16 but I think that's pretty unlikely. |
