Ok. My Celica's leaking a little bit of oil. I checked the engine and found a small leak out the back from between the head and the valve cover. So far ppl have said its the head gasket. The engine also sounds rough at idle. And when its cold (which it doesn't get very cold here in Houston), the engine goes up to 2000 rpm and sounds weird. I'm pretty sure it is the head gasket but also figured i'd try to see if someone could give me their opinion. Another prob is that i'm not sure if it would be only the head gasket. haha i tried to explain the problem as best as i could. So...any suggestions? smile.gif

If its leaking between your cylinder head and valve cover then its most likely your valve cover gasket is bad just replace it and make sure you seal it right or it'll leak again.

Edit: Your head gasket is located beneath your cylinder head oh and its normal for your car to idle around 2k if the engine is cold when you first start it its normal on our cars its your ecu telling you its trying to warm up your engine.

You can also use sensor-safe carb cleaner, it too will evaporate away but not damage paint or sensors

Edit: you should take Death up on his offer though - he'll not only help you diagnose your problem, but he'll walk you through it and help you help yourself biggrin.gif

you can buy engine degreaser that is safe on sensors and other electrical stuff at your local auto parts store.

If you have oil leaking between your head and your valve cover, that would be the valve cover gasket. It's a $10 part that can be easily replace.

If you suspect a HG problem, you can check your radiator fluid to have any mixture of coolant and oil. It'll look milky like from the cap, another way of check is doing a compression check. You can buy a compression tester for about $30 at your auto parts store and ask from there.

If it turns out it's as simple as the valve cover gasket, IMHO you're best off getting the whole gasket kit that includes the o-ring gaskets for where the spark plug holes are and the PVC valve grommet thingie (if you have that on a GT, not sure about that). You'll also want some high temp silicone gasket maker stuff to seal up the curvy parts and around the (damn, I can't remember what it's called) whatever it's called near the cams, facing the timing belt cover. It's a metal half-moon shaped thing. confused.gif

where the cam passes through the head just under the VC? I know what you mean. I don't see how ya'lls 7A's leak from anywhere on the VC seeing as how straight up and down your motor sits. The 5S starts leaking after only 100K miles.

BTW - Not talking about seepage which is normal on any motor's VCG

PM is personal Message - click th ebox next to my name and you will see "send message" as an option - click that and the site pretty much does the work for you. But I'm here answering your questions so no need.
I won't charge you anything to diagnose it for you and if it's just something simple like a VCG and you don't feel like getting dirty and following my instructions I'll do it for say $25? If you're old enough bring beer and give me a hand and it's totally free - your choice. biggrin.gif
