My Celica is leaking, Water soaking the carpets...help please Options

My Celica, primarily in the colder months (but it does happen in the summer, too), seems to let in water. The carpets in the two back seats and the passenger carpet all get soaked, but not the driver's side carpet. I also get a lot of moisture (it even forms water drops sometimes) on the inside of my front and rear windshield. I know the obvious answer is that my car is leaking in water, but i had my mechanic look at it and he didnt know what was causing it. I'm just wondering if any of you guys have had a similar problem or might know what the cause is, thanks in advance

Yup heat and A/C are fine. Defrost takes a bit, but i think that's normal for the Celica.

I had a truck with a leaking heater core, and that leaked into my cab, but if you say your heater is working properly, then I doubt if that's your problem. My other thought is, has your car been wrecked? I have a friend with a Firebird that has been wrecked. Every time it rains, his water gets into the cab somehow under the windshield or through the firewall somehow. I think it was fixed at a sh*tty body shop, but you never know, it might be the same situation.

As far as i know it hasn't been in a crash. I looked up the carfax report and it didnt show anything, just routine checkups and oil changes and whatnot. I also looked for new bolts and screws and stuff but everything seems to be from 96. My parents seem to think i have a rust whole in the bottom of my car, but my cars been up a bunch of times at the mechanics and he's never noticed anything. I'm totally stumped. 3/4 of my floor is wet and i have no idea how it's happening haha

If the Carfax didn't show anything, then I doubt if it was wrecked. It would have to be wrecked pretty bad for this kind of damage, not the kind of wreck that you don't turn in to insurance. I've got no idea. I'm stumped too, and it's starting to bother me why I can't think of anything else lol. I'll let you know if I get any ideas at all.

I don't think there are any leaks in those windows. When i wash my car the only thing that happens even remotely resembling a leak is that a few drops find themselves on the inside of my door windows when i spray the hose i the seam for a few seconds, but nothing even close enough to get my carpets drenched. Plus i've never noticed anything while driving.

I am glad you said that though, because it got me thinking. My passenger side front speaker is blown, and that is the only side in the front that leaks. Maybe there is a connection...?

Do you have a sun roof? If so make sure the drain on it is not plugged. Might be a longshot but better to rule it out as one less source

if all else fails strip the car from the interior and check forl leaks on a rainy day.

this is the most PROBABLE cause if he does have a sunroof.
there are multiple drain tubes on a sunroof, make sure the track, and drain holes are clean and clear as well as the tubes. Also check the ends of the drain tubes to ensure no build up is causing the water to back up.

I do have a sun roof, but i've never noticed any water coming from it. Where are the drain tubes located?

Thanks for the pics man. I'm not noticing any drainage towards the rear of the car. Could the 2 front drains account for the wetness in the back of my car?

the tubes run down next to the seats and if its leaking from the top it will run down various areas of the car....just check all 4

That would be my next guess too, that it's bad drainage from the sunroof. Same exact thing happened with my g/f's Jetta. Gunk gets in the drainage tube and backs it up, so it's got nowhere to go but the cabin. Hers started with the back seat floor, then the front, and it was actually the drain tube that ran along the A pillar on the pass. side that was the problem. The water just ran down to the back first for whatever reason.

^ you should cut the ends off the drainage points inside the door and just behind the rear wheel behind the bumper of the drainage tubes on the jetta

the exit ports are basically nipples of a baby bottle so the water goes out very slow and junk builds up. cuts the ends off and FREE FLOWING baby!
