Ok, so I ordered a high output alternator and installed it today. Now as I finished installing the alternator, I cranked it up and let it run for a while. The battery I have in there right now is a Everstart ( one of the small ones ) and only had it for about 1 year. Never had a problem with it even when I installed my system. Now after installing the alternator, I started to crank up my system and then whole sound system cuts off? So I shut off my car for about 2 minutes, now when I go to start her up again, battery is dead! Even when i jump started it and had the car running the current was LOW! If I were to turn on my headlights, then my rev would drop and lights would dim. I have a Tsunami 1.2 farad capacitor as well. My whole system is a JL Audio 450/4 & an MTX 600/1. Is there some reason that my battery died just like that, and the current in the car is running low when it's started? I thought high output alternators was supposed to save your battery not kill it? My voltometer is reading about 9 volts when started and running! PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

sounds like you either got a bad Alternator... or you got and alternator that is only high output when revving high. a lot of the "high output" alternators put out below factory at idle but higher as the engine revs.

This shouldn't be, because I compared it to the stock alternator, and it's WAY bigger than the stock alternator. Anyways, even if it were not pumping the full amount of amps when idling my battery still wouldn't die, would it?

If the alternator is putting out less than the vehicle is requiring then it will drain the battery because the alternator isn't keeping up. If your alternator is putting out 9 volts at idle it is not putting out enough because the vehicle is a 12 volt system. the capacitor is a temporary fix but only for low bass notes in your system. bring the alternator into an auto parts store and have it tested under load, they can tell you if it is putting out ample power.

When I installed my "high Output" alternator I also upgraded the battery and did the "big three". under load my alternator is putting out between 12.7 and 14.8 volts at approx 130 amps, at idle...

If you ran your car for a while with the alternator going bad u have drained the battery. If you havn't already. Take the battery to advance and have them put it on slow charge, and then have them test the battery for you. Because it sounds like from what your saying that you just put the new alternator in with the batter not charged so you might have enough amps to start the car but not enough charge to operate your system or lights. Plus your car needs to be at 2,000 rpms or above for the alternator to charge your battery well enough.. I hope this helps you.

Thanks a lot for all of the info guys. I am going to test the alternator tomorrow after work, and I'm taking the battery today to Auto Zone for them to charge it. For now, I just have the stock alternator in there. Oh and the brand is NipponDenso. It is a stock alternator just remanufactured, atleast that's what the guy told me. Thanks again guys for all the help. Will keep you guys up to date.
