ok check me out, so about 2 weeks ago i had brought my car to a repair shop to fix the bad lower engine knock. the shop owner told me 1700 to replace my 5sfe with a new 5sfe. so i go to pick it up earlier today and he added on all types of additional charges. came out to $2400.00
so as im leaving the shop, i notice the car losing power and eventually it started with the same knocking noise again and turned off at low RPMs... so now im thinking this guy didnt do anything but maybe put an oil additive and not swap the motor. my question is, how can i tell if this is my original motor or not? whats the location of the engine serial number? or just what do u think i should do? thanks for any help |

If he shows you the old engine tell him you want it since you did pay an amount of money for the new one. one day you might be able to use some parts out of it. and also ask for a receipt of the new engine.

ok but thats the thing, he has random 5s-fe camry motors sitting around he just pointed to one that looks just like all the rest and said it was my old one. so the motor has a number that should match the number of the car right? anyone know where i might find this information?

bslik i sent you an email with a pic showing the vin location. It sounds like the guy is scamming you. Even if he isn't I would make him fix it again. If you do find that he did not replace the engine i would call the police on the spot and file a report for fraud and theft. then you have it on file so you can take him to small claims court to get your money back. Also like someone said previously if he did replace it get your old engine back as him keeping your old one was not part of the deal and if he keeps it he will get money for scrap or try to reuse it in something else
