shifting gears, slight chirping/squeaking

No clue what it is? Sometimes it seems to be coming from the rear, but then at times it sounds like it's under the hood. Didn't really start becoming noticeable until the weather got really snowy (yay Canada). Any ideas?

Every time he power shifts into 3rd gear, at pretty much any rpm level, there is a crazy sounding clicking-like noise... Hard to describe, when i first drove it and asked him about it he told me it was a 'syncing problem' or something..
