LSD= Greatness

LSD means Limited Slip Differential.

For example the stock 5sfe Celica GT transmission utilizes the S54 OPEN Differential trans. No LSD.

Eventhough if you take a peak inside the diff where the axles pop into there is a bar running through the middle of it just like the E153 VLSD trans, the s54 isnt lsd.

VLSD what I've got means Viscous Limited Slip Differential. The difference between mine is that the Viscous uses liquids to get the LSD to work, which means it is less aggressive compared to a clutch type lsd.

Basically when one wheel spins the other picks up the slack.

limited slip differential. It prevents "one wheel" power. In a tranny without lsd, if you spin the wheels, only one side will really do most the spinning. LSD detects wheel spin and puts power to both drive wheels, instead of one. biggrin.gif

yes but is it possible to "install" LSD in a transmission or does it pretty much have to come with it (the trans)
also is the e153 w/lsd bolt up to 5s?

You can by a differential to put inside the trans. Easy IMO. Yes the e153 bolts on, but you'll need hybrid axles to run it on our cars.

hydroplaning has nothing to do with lsd. One way you can tell is put your car in neutral and jack your car up and have both tires off the ground. Spin one tire and see if the other tire spins the same direction as the one you are spining. If it spins the same way it has lsd. If it spins opposite it doesnt.

It's totally unreliable. That's no way to determine whether you have LSD or not.

okay fine. Pull your axles and peak in there. With the stock s54 trans you will see a bar runnning through the diff. That means you don't have lsd. If you peak through it and the bar is removed and you can totally see through it, you might have an after market lsd. If you have an e153 trans and you see a bar running through it you have lsd. VLSD.

It doesn't, it just shows how I feel about such a common-sense question being asked.
