So i got a pretty decent surround system for my place, only down side is i live in an apartment and have super thin walls. my subwoofer even when cranked all the way down still rumbles like crazy, does anyone know if theres a device to dial down the subwoofer even more than the receiver allows?

give us some specs on your set up.

I know my home theatre can completely turn off the subwoofer and make up for it with the other speakers.

hmm from what i can tell since yours is a pre-built system you can't do much.

Your sub is there to make up all the base the small speakers can not produce.

my suggestion would to put the sub on top of a piece of carpet and closer to the center of the room.

Subwoofer placement can make a thousand dollar speaker sound amazing or terrible.

how did you turn the subwoofer down right now? Is there just a bass knob on the receiver? or is there a control on the woofer itself? Most decent systems have a way to change the level of the sound output in decibels (dB), and you should be able to lower the output level of the subwoofer while the rest of speakers are playing at a different volume. For instance, if the master volume is at -45dB, the woofer would be at -50dB or whatever the amp will allow you to do.

Its also fun to turn up the output of the rear speakers and watch a creepy show in Dolby Digital. biggrin.gif Keep clean underwear nearby though. wink.gif

lol i never tried the rear speaker thing but that doesnt sound like a bad idea. the subwoofer control is managed internally via digital control, so right now i have it set at its lowest setting of -10 dB. the sound is sooooooo awesome i just feel bad for my neighbors sometime

Experiment with sub placement ie, if your using corner loading try turning it to a more off axis placement. How does it sound with the sub disconnected completely? passable?

Without the sub its still great but not mind blowing. Id be happy if I could have the bass half as loud as it is at its lowest. think theres anything i can connect in-line to control/decrease its output?

Yeah, make a "dummber switch"

Just take an RCA extender; and run it thru a capacitor; then an inhib. round or slide. Then back out to the other rca. Run sub thru it. Manual control wink.gif
