Ok so I found an MR2, but it is non-turbo. Any way to have it ref'd with a stock turbo engine?

It is at a price that is unbeatable, and I wanted a turbo for now, but the price is so hard to beat, I dunno what to do. So I ask, get a really sweet deal on an MR2 period? The point was to be a DD while I fix up my Celica (swap, etc...) and then fix on the MR2 as the next project. Wanted specifically a turbo for speed and legally smog reasons, but I dunno.

Please, what do you think I should do? I might need a poll here. I need to know by this Thursday!! The sooner the better for me.

how great of a deal is it?

Look at the cost of a orginal mr2 turbo these days. mr2 turbo

At the resonable price its around 6-10 grand. So can you legally convert a N/a mr2 to a turbo using OEM parts?

What if I told you it is a non-turbo for $1k? Only problems is switch for driver window, passenger window needs to be replaced from being broken, a cat put on the car, and driver side fender has a dent. Wow a total of $500 maybe. So $1.5k total spent? Yeah....

It's too late though. I have already thought it out and that price is unbeatable for the little problems with it. Other than that, the body is CLEAN! SO I told the guy I will drive down tomorrow to pay him, get the pink slip, and come back Saturday to pick it up when I have a driver. That way I can make it to the meet for Friday.

2 people are coming to look at it before he said to give him the call. So if they don't put that money in his hand, I am coming down there and doing it myself. If someone does take it, then I will have to wait until Jan when I can get more money and try to get an MR2 turbo (which I can generally find for $2.5-4k).

finding good condition Dueceyz are really hard to come by man. if you get the turbo duece then you'll prolly end up fixing that one and using the 6gc as DD then DD the Duece and work on the 6gc laugh.gif

or buy now.........sell for higher.........get the Turbo Duece..........fix small things......DD the Duece.......project the celica

sorry not "expert adivise" just one Flip to another......thumbsup.gif

dude, be VERY carefull buying a "cheap" duece.
check things VERY well for rust.
off the top of my head, if i were going to look at another 2 right now (went with my cousin and bought one a few years back) things i would be SURE to check are:

throttle cables, (yes, there are more than one in the 2, make sure they operate freely, with no binding)
shifter cables,
the metal lines for coolant that run to the frunk for the radiator, and the radiator itself (they dont make aftermarket non turbo radiators, and they are 300+ from toyota.)
ebrake cables,
hubs, ect.
listen for idle quality (the 2's tend to have a "hunting" or high idle as they get older, the IACV tends to get sticky)
as far as bushings, at least they are all replaceable on the 2, you can buy the complete set of aftermarket bushings in one package for a little over 100$. but getting things apart without braking bolts a bit of a hassle
be prepared to do lots of little things, that quickly add up on the duece.
its an older car, that if it hasnt been maintained properly can be expensive to get back up to good running condition.

^^^ Very good advice. I shall do that. Because this guy is 300 miles away. I want it bad, and from the look of his drive way, it is clean. He said small leaks and such. But I am taking an engine overhaul class and sure I am going to need some projects to do in there. I don't mind working on this MR2 for $1k. The guy seems pretty honest as he told me two people are coming to look at it and I can keep it there until Saturday to pick it up if need be. But I pay him up front and he will sign over the pink slip to me.

Also from the photos, the house he lives in is HUGE! Thinking he doesn't know about fixing up cars or something, because when he seen how serious I was, he called me back and wanted to go over it's problems again. After each one, I was like "Unh huh.... Is that all?" and finally it ended where he was just like "Ugh, yeah...... that's it".

I honestly believe that for $1k, it would be in the same condition or have the same problems as one who has an MR2 Turbo 93' and trying to sell it for $3k.

But I shall check out those things. I just want to make it down there today if it hasn't sold so I can decide if I want to buy it or not. It will sell at that price fast, regardless of what troubles it has.

Well someone got to it before I could. If any of you know or hear of an MR2 for sale up to around $4k, let me know (one that runs for the trip back). Willing to drive up to any neighboring state, city, or county that could be made within an 8hr-14hr drive. Thanks.

Found an 89 with a supercharger (only exception for the older ones) I might look into.....
