my email to Toyota USA and their response

QUOTE
First of all, I have owned my Celica since 2001 and have loved every minute of it. Recently, I have been looking online for a towbar option for my 1999 Celica GT Liftback and found some part numbers that, most likely, are no longer valid. I have called numerous local toyota dealerships and asked them about this with no results. I have heard that these items were very rare OEM parts, possibly from EU dealers or possibly JDM

Part Number: 08644-14020C (Towbar rated 1000KG)
Part Number: 08647-00003C (50MM Chrome Towball)
Part Number: 08641-14020C (Towbar wiring harness 7 pin flat)
found here:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...l=Dealer+Option

It would be much cheaper to attach a towbar, and accompanying wiring harnesses to my vehicle than it would be to buy another vehicle for the very limited towing that I need(hauling a Sea Doo). I would much rather install a standard part that I know will work vs. going to U-Haul or some other trucking company and having to have something custom made for my car.

Any assistance you could offer would be much appriciated.
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.
We are sorry; we do not offer any towing accessories or components for our passenger cars, including the 1999 Celica. Your vehicle is designed primarily as a passenger- carrying vehicle.

The part numbers you provided are also not valid part numbers.

We are sorry that we were unable to be of greater assistance to you.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #200810230320. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us via email or by calling 800-331-4331. We are available from 5 AM to 6 PM, Pacific Time, Monday through Friday and from 7 AM to 4 PM, Pacific Time, on Saturdays.

I was thinking about doing something like that, but I didn't want to have to cut into the rear bumper for clearance. Let me know what you end up doing.

per KBB the towing payload is 2000lbs (approx 1000kg)
