alright so the 3 options i dont have for my car are premium sound, CC, and abs
i dont know why, i know it started life as a company car (partly why i bought it maintenance was spot-on) my question is this, besides getting a knew steering wheel assembly (or just the CC wheel control part) what else is involved in installing cc? is this even fathomable? no i would not be doing this-way over my head, just getting the parts and giving to some sort of shop (or someone on here tweak *cough*) does it involve messing with ecu/harness i know you need the computer in the engine bay, do you need other fuses and all that? any thoughts would be appreciated thanks |

if it helps you any...
on my prizm all the wiring is there for cruise control, but i lack the stalk switch, the cc computer, the vacuum modulator, its mounting bracket, its cable, and where it hooks to the throttle body. you'll pretty much need all those things as well, a junkyard car would be a good place to get all that...however...some things may be in different locations in the engine bay because you don't have cc. so the modulator mounting spot could be taken up by part of a fluid reservoir or something. my gf has 2 escorts, one has cc and one does not, both of the same gen. the one with cc has a different coolant reservoir than the one that does not. If you are looking to retrofit toyota cruise control from another celica, there are two different cruise control setups apparently.
The most common is with the cruise control actuator located adjacent to the battery and the radiator. On some models (eg 3sge), there is an air reservoir at that location: http://www.6gc.net/images/member_photos/6642_4.jpg ... so you'll need to remove it and blank off the appropriate outlet on the rubber duct between the air filter and the throttle body. The alternative location is near the abs actuator (between the water bottle and the strut tower) on the other side of the engine bay. Unfortunately, if your car didn't come with cruise control as standard then the wires won't be present - you'll have to run them around the car yourself. It is pretty straightforward. For a manual car, from memory: * fit the clutch switch, one wire to a junction box and the other to the cruise control ecu * a bunch of wires from cruise control to various junction box locations (11) and ground (1) * two wires to the cruise control instrument panel lever * fit cruise tell-tale light in instrument panel, run wire between instrument panel and cruise control ecu * replace 2-pin footbrake switch with 4-pin version * seven wires from the cruise control ecu to the actuator in the engine bay, one via two sides of the foot brake switch * plus, fitting the accelerator pedal lifter and the actuator cable between the lifter and the actuator -------------------- Davey

well straightforward as it may be thats too much for me by myself, plus sounds like i'd need a new instrument panel which i didnt even think about, nvm all the wiring i have no clue how to do
in that picture is that am aftermarket cc or is that where toyota puts it from factory? |

Need some help. I just hooked up my sterio. I used the adapter to connect to the factory wiring. Used the antanna remote wire to be the remote for the amp. This all bypasses the factory amp. After doing this noticed the the cruise control light will come on in the cluster, but it doesnlt seem to engage. Been running through a 96 Toyota wiring manual but can't seem to find anything connecting the two. By the way I'm the proud owner of a 94. After 10 years The airbags went off in a tiny fender bender and they totaled my 96. So now have a new project. Any help would be awsome...

u knock any connectors/wires out? Not that I can think of. The only things I dis connected was the wire from the amp to the sterio and the plugs that go to the amp. These now go to the new head unit. I'm now noticed that the switch on the steering wheel will try to activate the accel if I lift up on it and kid if press it toward the dash. But it doesn't want to do this all the time either. I have to really work it to get it to do this. and it doesn't seem to actually start to accel unless I hold it there for a few seconds. Like it is responding slowly. Have not managed to get the cruise to actually engage at all no matter how much I mess with it. |
