I recently purchased a 1997 celica ST and I'm a total newb when it comes to cars. I mean, I truly adore cars, but when it comes to the inside of the car, my mind just goes blank. So I had a few questions regarding this model. What is exactly is the ST model? I know it only has a 1.8 liter engine with only 4 piston shooting in it. But what does that all mean... (I'm truly a newb here, forgive me). Another question is that would parts that were meant to go on GT models fit in this ST model? And where would I be able to find some TRD parts for this old celica?

thanks in advance.

TRD parts = eBay, or your local toyota dealer. you can get some second hand stuff here as well.
all suspension and cat-back exhaust will fit GT and ST.

as for the engine as you said is a 1.8L 7afe, which means you can't go faster than the ice cream truck but will save plenty gas to driving right behind him all weekend.

Chassis code is AT200, since you have a 1997, you have a OBD II car. you can start reading some discussions to pick up a lot more info regarding your car.

Welcome enjoy your stay and please read some info, there is a search function you can use to find some specific info, if you can't find it, post and someone will have an answer for you.

Ok. Uhhh, what kind of exhaust system could I install in this ST? I've been looking around for one, but couldn't find a good well known brand.

the best is to find a muffler that you like ( sound and look ) and take it to a exahust shop, have them make you a cat-back or full exhaust, is cheaper and you can pick your muffler.

there are cat-backs for our cars

Greddy made one ofthem, most of the exhaust are discontinued, but you can still find them used in Good condition on eBay or here. you can get a ST202, or ST205, but they both need modificatian to fit, the ST202 just needs to be extended a little bit, the ST205 has more work involve.
