I have a '98 GT. After having installed a new head unit and disconnecting the battery, the alarm went off when I tried to start the car. I disconnected the horn and played around with it for 10 minutes before I could get it to turn over and start. I have no idea what I did to get it to finally turn over. Can anyone explain the proper procedure to re-set the alarm after it has been triggered?

I believe you turn the key to "on" then "off" then "on" and maybe "off" one more time? It's something like that. It might even be three times.

I was wondering if that was a factory alarm or not. I've only had to disconnect my battery once. So i've only had to turn off my alarm once. its too much of a hassle to mess with actually turning it on.

UPDATE: In case anyone has a similar problem, I had a young lady show me a much easier way to reset the factory anti theft alarm. The alarm on her Celica had gone off and discharged the battery. When we jump started her car, she showed me how to reset the alarm. All you have to do is place the key in the driver's side door lock and rotate from lock to unlock ten times. This resets the alarm if the battery is disconnected or goes dead.

That's not gonna work for people like myself, who have a factory alarm but not power windows or locks ![]() Good tip for everyone else though! Thanks! -------------------- ![]() |

my factory alarm is getting old and going on and off on me. Right now it's dead I think.... I replaced the battery in it but it works whenever it wants to only. and it doesn't do much either. I think I'll just upgrade to aftermarket of somesort.
