Hey y'all I am new here, I have been a member of celicatech for a while now, and decided that since my dad and I are possibly picking up a 6th gen this weekend that I may as well join up here.

My name is Ryan, I am from IN, and I own a 1992 Celica GT hatch. I love celicas, and have been into imports in general since I grew an interest in cars around the time I was able to walk.

We are going this weekend to look at a 1994 Celica GT hatch 5sp. It is black, has around 190k on it, but has been maintained at the Toyota dealership. It has just had a tune-up, new timing belt, and new tires.

There are a couple of small dents behind the passenger door, and no rust.

The only problem is that it pops out of 3rd gear. I am not too familiar with the s54 transmission, but if any of y'all have an idea on what could cause that, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks
Ryan

welcome, those trannys are a dime a dozen. so for 200 bucks you can swap it.
any ways there are a lot of people doing swaps here that could probably sell it with a pound of dust.

if you decide to get the car, please do post pics.

Oh I will, dont worry. I am actually pretty excited about it because I love the look of the 6th gens.

Also, if we end up getting it, that would mean there would be 3 celica hatches at my house.lol.

My dad also has a 92 GT hatch.

I think that it would make for an awesome picture. smile.gif

Welcome to the site, brother. I predict you will be asking about turbo options for it in the near future. It's the rage here. biggrin.gif Please post pics of the car once you get it. smile.gif

Well, I picked it up today. When he showed up, I popped the hood to check fluids and the condition of everything, and come to find out, it wasn't a GT, it was an ST... 7afe..

I took it for a drive, and 3rd gear, does absolutely nothing, it goes in, but just free revs. Then, going into 4th, it grinds a bit, and then whines while driving.

It was originally red, but was repainted black, but they did not paint the door jambs or engine bay and under the hood. I figure I will just rattle can it until I get it repainted.

It has a couple of minor dents behind the passenger side door, but they are easily fixable.

It has 190k miles, but has been maintained very well at the Toyota dealer, and it runs GREAT!! They just had the timing belt done and a tune up.

The interior is mint, and has pw, pl, sunroof, pm, ps, and a new pioneer head unit.

It has the GT spoiler on it, and is a hatch with a rear wiper.

I drove it the 130+ miles home from Indianapolis, and just used 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th.

It even has 4 brand new tires.

I figure I will replace the transmission, get some body work done, and have a great project car.

The guy was asking $800 for it, and I ended up getting it for $600. smile.gif

Great buy guy. BTW ST's came with the same spoiler too. Shoot if I could find another 6th gen for 600 I wouldn't hesitate to buy it regardless of the condition of the motor or drivetrain. So I opted to pick up a POS 89 celica hatch with rust and dents galore, 2 days later the motor blew. O well. Hopefully you'll have better luck with yours. btw BOOST IT!!!!

I told myself I wouldn't buy another one because this one is going to be expensive enough as it is, but for $600? Heck yeah I would take it and do it all over again........ That is once this one is complete.

Welcome!

Well, here is what I am wanting to do to it....

-new transmission, clutch, throw out bearing, resurfaced flywheel
-intake
-header, possibly a full exhaust, nothing too loud because I dont like the loud ricer sound

-repair the dents
-gt-4 front bumper or front lip
-gt-4 side skirts
-gt-4 rear lip
-spoiler risers
-paint door jambs, engine bay, and underside of the hood
-repaint the entire car metallic black

-nice set of rims

The previous owner repainted it black, it was originally red. Well, to give you an idea of how crappy the paint job is...

-he taped off around the license plate(WTF)
-he didnt use primer, and didnt sand it down before painting
-it is chipping off around the window seals and a few other places.

I dont mind the paint job though, because at least its a ten footer right now.

But it does give me something to do and work on, because my 5th gen is pretty well done..

I cant wait to start on it. smile.gif

Here are a few pics I took with my cell phone a little bit after I got home.

In one of the pics you can see my 5th gen.

Thanks guys. I am really excited about it.

I am going to start on the mechanical stuff first, especially since its cold, and then when it starts to warm up again, I am going to start on the body work and paint. smile.gif
