I've got some oil dripping from my drain bolt. Very minor, but I'm curious what the factory-spec torque on it is, so I can torque the bolt to that and go from there.

lol there was a thread on ozcelica about this a while ago, it was terrible.
a good indication is just do it up reasonably tight with the correct side standard spanner. (as the spanner legnth is a good indication of how much torque you can put on it, the longer the spanner the more torque). It should be only tight enough that you can undo it with the same spanner, that sound silly, but things get stuck sometimes. its 37 nm (27 ftlbs) This post has been edited by Cuts_the_Pilot: Jan 22, 2009 - 5:16 PM -------------------- ST205 Group A Rallye GT-Four, #61 of 77............600hp GT3582r

You're actually supposed to have a washer/gasket there. Yours is probably missing. You can get a new one from any parts store.

I see them come in all the time leaking, aftermarket gaskets i mean. The Toyota gasket is much better and is still dirt cheap, worth the price difference, I think.
EDIT: It also depends on the dealer, some dealers for some reason may carry aftermarket gaskets. The Toyota gasket looks like its made of aluminum with a blue "paper coating" on either side of it. It looks kinda cheap but it works the best. This post has been edited by silver6gc: Jan 22, 2009 - 8:52 PM -------------------- Trust me, I do this every day |

I don't have a gasket on mines and it doesn't leak.

Its hard to describe tight enough, its an instinct thing. You can have a gasket or not.

Thanks. I did have the gasket on there. I didn't for a while.
Unfortunately, per my dad's aggravation with the oil spots in the drive way, I stuck her up on jack stands and what would you know, it looks like a valve cover leak! Woohoo! But that diagnosis is for another thread. Thanks! -------------------- 2019 M2, 2005 S2000, 1997 4Runne
