So some idiot hit my parked car a few weeks ago and his insurance is paying to repaint the passenger rear quarter. I figured, while I'm at it, since the driver's side has a small crease on the quarter, and both front fenders and hood need painted/replaced, why not do it all at once, right? But the body shop wants about $4k to do the whole car, and Maaco even wanted $2k to do it w/o clearcoat! What a joke!
After I left the body shop yesterday, some guy followed me into the parking lot of a Lowe's and told me he does body work and could save me a lot of money on the rest of it. Like an idiot, I told him no. But then I got to thinking, in this economy, I can't take that kind of risk of dropping a few grand on paint in a 10+ year old car with almost 200k miles on it. So what the hell...maybe someone else can do it cheaper?
So does anyone near NYC know how to paint well, and do minor body work? I plan on just replacing the fenders, and I believe the new ones come primed and ready to paint. As for the hood, I will post some pics, but it is in need of some help from the bondo man (unless I can get a good deal on a new one).
I guess I don't really need to do the doors if we can match the paint. It's stock Toyota white in color. So, just painting the hood and two front fenders, and maybe repaint the back hatch as well. Any takers? Or any Body Shop suggestions in the area that are good priced and do decent work?
