NO celica came w/ a 'V4' but instead an inline 4. since you have drums and are in the USA you would have a:
Toyota Celica ST
1.8L INLINE4
7AFE engine

my auto ST sucked gas too

i think you need a "tune up"

Plugs, wires, cap&rotor, PCV valve, fuel/air filter, and probably an oil/tranny fluid change.

I'd also mix in half a can of seafoam in your next tank

that list should bring you up to 23-25 mpg w/ a light foot

I changed the oil and the plugs were replaced with new onew a cople of moths ago, the air filter hose has a little air-leak like 1/2" after the metal ring, but I'm waiting to find out my celica type so the I can find the size of the hose to install cold air ram intake on it

JT2 just means that its a jap. spec car, so it came from canada most likely. Mine is a 204,gt-s, JT2vin, because it came from canada.

ok well since you won't listen to me i'll decode your vin
J: Country of Origin: Japan
T: Manufacturer: Toyota
2: Vehicle Type: Passenger Car
A: Engine Family: A Series Engine
T: Model/Platform: Celica FWD
O: Chassis code on car
O: Model Grade
N: Body/Chassis Configuration
R: Check digit

ALSO, you can check your chassis code:
Look on the sticker on the inside of your door after the MODEL:
OR, lookk on your firewall, on the passenger side towards the center

If it says AT200; YOU HAVE AN ST (which the info says you have an ST, and i've been telling you this whole time)
If it says ST204; you have a GT.

Still don't believe me? Write down the WHOLE set of numbers and letters from your firewall and visit this site:
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q?vin=
put the number in and it will tell you all you need to know(submodel, country sold in, body style, engine, transmission)

Nope, non-motor dependent. All models of the Celica were available in hatchback form. It's the coupe, vert, and GT4 that were limited.

I have seen many 97 st HB vins and they all start this way, D= 2dr HB and, B=7afe. That fact is if it has rear drums it is an ST,
some STs had rear discs w/abs iirc. To my knowlage drums were never an option on a gt.
