since you have a gt you can use your trans and keep it fwd. the motor will drop right in. just gotta get the wiring harness converted and upgrade the fuel pump.

Quite a lot of work, for maybe not much gain imo.
Standard 185 is 201 BHP. For the fitting costs and extra insurance costs etc, you'd be much better off selling up and getting a 205. They're cheap as chips at the moment. -------------------- |

Swap info
There's the link to this sites "Sticky" section... this all the info our members have compiled over the years on the swap you want. Whether its hard or not depends on your skill. When i did mine, i had very MINIMAL amount of knowledge, so it was a bit difficult but not impossible. Just reference this site and ask questions and you should be ok. as far as your question: AWD Conversion: Is possible, it has been done before, but it is VERY difficult. there is a lot of fabrication and welding involved. Not much of the awd suspension will Bolt right in so you will have to fabricate mounting brackets and supports. FWD: is your best option: you can keep your GT tranny and mounts, you would just need get the right clutch+flywheel combination (somewhere in the stickies) OR you can get the E-153 tranny found in the mr2 Turbo, V6 Camry and Solaras. However if you do this, you will need the rear engine mount from the Gt4- ST205 celica. And you will need the right axle combination. you will also need to get your wire harness redone... you can have Dr.Tweak on this site to do it for you. Those are the Major sections of the swap but there are various miscellaneous things involved that you will have to research. Good luck if you decide to do it. its deffinitely worth the effort. |
