Is it a must to remove the crank pulley to get the timing belt off, or is it possible to change it with the pulley on? Its just a big deal to take it off for me, hard to find a puller and i dont have a good impact.
And should i change the idler pulley as well? The car has 240000km.

Good luck you will need it. I had to go buy a 650lb ft torqe impact gun just BECAUSE I couldn't get the freakin Pulley off. It was so stubborn, 150lb was weak sauce, 250 didnt do squat, 350 was childs play and I nearly out of my mind bought a 1250lb torque hammer gun but the only thing stopping me was my Air comp. not supporting over 250 Psi, so I settled for the 650 which was the highest I could find that supported 150 psi range. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

frig, i have a 30$ 12 volt impact thats suppose to do 250lb ft torque, but its one that spins up for a couple seconds and then kicks in with one big bang, then spins up again and tries again. dont know if its up to the task, but im gonna find out:)

FWD suck for doing timing belt replacement on your spare time. RWD are much better access.

well i spent most of today working on it, got the old belt off. there was a bad oil leak so i ordered a cam and crank seal, as well as valve cover gasket. i took the valve cover off though and there is black cooked oil caked everywhere in the head. its burnt go bad the oil is flaky. either someone never did oil changes, or it majorly overheated. either way its not good. ive never seen a engine so dirty from oil. but it does have 240000km on it. i had plans to go turbo with it this summer, but not sure if i will now. maybe do a swap
