I'm trying to do an overhaul on my 94 GT. She was a one owner car when I bought her last year. It has 203,000 miles on it with a 5-speed - all original other than cold air intake ans stainless race header (4-1). She runs awesome - doesn't leak or smoke - very strong for the mileage. There's not a stock VTEC Civic or Accord that can take her on the street. As a matter of fact the factory clutch just started slipping last week. Not bad for over 200K on the factory clutch. I'm wanting to get more power -possibly stroke it - but still keep it normally aspirated. I was reading online and found that you can bolt a 3S-GTE head onto the 5S-FE block. I'm thinking this will allow me to upgrade the cams, cam gears, pistons, crank, etc. I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas - things I should do, parts to buy, what can be upgraded with this setup. Also curious as to how far I should go with the bore - keep it standard, ".020" over, how far? This is my first tuner and has definitely moved me towards the import side as I was traditionally a muscle-car "V-8" gearhead. Does anyone have any ideas? Anything would help as this is my first attempt at an import tuner - and I wanted to do something different as everybody I know are running Acuras and Hondas - I think there is much more potential in my Celica - and I have been in love with my 6th gen Celica since I bought her. Thanks!

you need to do a little more research. there is no stroking a 5S-FE. you already have the longer stroke. its the 3S-GTE guys that use a 5S-FE crank to stroke it. read the stickies a little bit more, that will point you in the right direction. but you do have a few options.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't for sure if you could stroke the 2.2 or not - but I did wander what would be the best cams and gears to go with on the 3S-GTE head - well pretty much the whole valve train - and if I should go with oversize forged internals or just stock size cast. Also can I use my stock intake manifold and existing header? Any links that would be helpful? At this point I'm just googling and reading into performance parts options. I hoped I could get some insight so I don't blow $ on parts that I can't use. Thanks Smaay. |
