Hey guys,

My turbo shaft is gone and my turbo is in for rebuild, It was suggested to me to have them rebuild it with a metal shaft instead of a ceramic shaft.

Apparently someone didn't change their oil frequently enough.

Can someone experienced comment about this metal and ceramic business? Plus anything else I should know or have done while it's being rebuilt.

Thanks

its only the turbine wheel thats ceramic not the shaft.

getting your turbo rebuilt will cost you say $6-800 depending on who does it and whats done. IMO your better off saving a bit more funds and getting an aftermarket turbo like a garrett etc.

some mob in the us (i think) make bolt on upgrades for our ct2* flange type. see link

some mob who do turbo kits

I got my car back today from Toyota and now I have a CT-26.... Is this an upgrade or a downgrade? For some reason my boost only goes up to 0.6bar instead of 0.9bar and theres extra lag now. What the heck? What can I tweak to get back my 0.9bar? Will everything be fine if I do manage to up my boost? The car doesn't launch like a bat out of hell from 3k anymore.

EDIT: Will this void my new warranty also?

Downgrade. The 3rd gen 3sgte's came with the ct20 where as the 1st and 2gens came with the ct26.

Ok I got it, it was because the Toyota mechanic forgot to fasten the clamp on back of the intercooler connecting to the throttle body. I fixed it and it now boosts just as good as the ct20b up to 0.9bar.

I cant tell much difference between the ct26 and ct20b actually, I'm just happy my car goes really fast again.

i would be going back to toyota and saying you've given me a ****ter turbo. Its a downgrade deffo, ct20 spools quicker, is less restrictive and makes more power.

glad your back on the road though.
