ive posted about this before. My car has high idle, roughly 2000 rpm. read about all this in the forums and came to the comclusion it was my IAC. got my IAC replaced the othyer day, no diffrence.
found the vaccum diagram for the 5s and checked mine out. everyhting was good. except for the PS assist valve. the "nipple" type things were semi broken on that. now im ok with engines, not a complete expert but i can do pretty good. i dont know what else could make my idle as high as it is, could timing, belt tension, advanced or retarded ignition timing have any effect on this? i just want my car to opperate as it should. im only a teen so i dont have too much money to play with, but any experience & help towards my problem is greatly appriciated. |

when i put my motor in they snapped off and i fixed it then but i guess it didnt hold for long. but i dont know if that was the problem because my idle has always been kind of high.
i was just going to get a new one but i had to get it from toyota because parts store dont have it and junk yards dont have any celis around here. if i remember correctly they were like $100. so i can just "plug" the lines till i can fix the PS valve? |

so i got around to pluging those lines.nothing happened, same rpm. decided to reset ECU, went down about 3-400. still high though. hope im not a pain here .
sounds like the intake is sucking in too much air though if you know what i mean. when the throttle is closed, that hole that leads to the IAC. which is why i thought it was my IAC. if i put my finger over that hole idle goes down, obviouly. any ideas of what would cause that? |

re-trace all your vacuum lines and verify that there is no cracks in any of the hoses.

completely cover that hole, if the engine dies the vac leak pulls air from the IAC if not, it pulls from the manifold. try force closing the throttle by hand.

what do you mean try force closing the throttle?
how would coving the hole fix it? sure it lowers the idle to where it should be, but wont that effect how the engine proforms when its not at idle? nevermind, i get what you mean about the coving the hole. and i believe i have covered it completly before. i dont think the engine died but it did come close. where would it pull from the manifold? |

like you would open the throttle from the engine, but the opposite.
any vac line leading to the mani -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. When you replaced your IACV did you get a new one or used one ?? Did you remember to get new TB gasket and IACV gasket ?? Make sure to adjust your TPS to oem spec and does your car throw any cel codes ?? Make sure your throttle cable is not on too tight. Some pics of your engine would help too just in case you have some lines hooked up wrong.

bc the engine died with it covered the valve is opened too far, OR the line to the PS idle up valve is leaking.
did the valve move freely when it was off the car? -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. You need to get the code for your CEL. I bet the CEL & high idle has something to do w/the ERG being plugged

Did you check for the throttle cable that would be too tight of the buttefly valve not fully closing? just a thought.
