Went out yesterday to film, and noticed the car was smoking a considerable amount.
Stopped, popped the hood, and coolant was spurting out of a hairline crack on the top of the rad, just a few inches below the rad cap. jb wed it? just took a pic. top is the main crack. I believe one is forming just below it This post has been edited by Tigawoods: Jan 16, 2012 - 4:21 PM -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

I tried jb welding my radiator when it started to leak where the plastic and aluminum meet and it only slowed down the leak.

My sister rear ended a pickup truck in a cavalier of ours during her senior year, so 2008-2009. We bought the car back from insurance with a mashed in trunk and hood from the accident, and one of the bits of damage was a cracked radiator right on top. Because this car was going to just be a beater work car for my step dad to run around town with, we stomped out the hood, hammered out other dents to get crap to line up, bought some cheap headlights, and JB welded the rad. We expected to have to replace the radiator, but figured it was worth a shot. 3 years and 32,xxx miles later, the radiator still hasn't leaked. the JB weld has held like a champ.
My advice, radiator should be cheap from autozone, maybe 100$ or so. But not cheap enough to worry about it now. I see how you treat and love your car, so I would MOST DEFINITELY try to JB weld it, make sure you allow for plenty of cure time etc so that it works...... and when it gets warmer and you're able to save up for the radiator, replace it then, maybe sometime this summer. But our JB weld job on a crack about 3x worse than that has held for years like I said, so it's worth a shot.... -------------------- |

since i probably wont drive it much this winter, i think it may be the best temporary option.
along with your experience with it, i have read other's and they all say it works fine. here is what I am going to do. open up the crack a tiny bit more, heat up the car so it will expand. shove the JB in it and let it cure and close up. then like you said. save up for a Mishimoto!...or just oem. I really dont care. -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

That exhaust sounds awesome! is it straight piped or is there a muffler somewhere? and it looks really good with that diffuser! was thinking that center exhaust kind of concept as well, also was thinking of dual exit but you put it all in one, is it just a Y pipe at the end where it comes to the diffuser? and my sister's SC got a hairline crack like that, we just got an epoxy kit with some kind of cloth (cant remember off the top of my head) and found it at napa. You could use it as an excuse to get an aluminum rad too lol
EDIT: yeah think it was the JB Weld, it seems to be working pretty well with her car, she hasnt called about it losing coolant and smoking anymore and its been a month or so but deff temporary, the things dying so it doesnt matter, but let its poor soul rest in peace, its had a tough run This post has been edited by UndecidedPC9397: Jan 18, 2012 - 11:12 PM |

You can get a new radiator on ebay for like 90bucks. This post has been edited by lagos: Jan 19, 2012 - 12:57 AM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

JB weld wont fix it for long, and the crack will expand causing coolant to explode all over the place Mine cracked in the same spot.. but was more abrupt had to clean a crap ton of coolant around the bay ended up topping off the coolant and drove around for a couple days cautiously checking it whenever I had to drive it until my new radiator came in.. went to autozone and price was a little steep ~150 This post has been edited by smkr3w: Jan 19, 2012 - 2:06 AM -------------------- 6gcHeroes:808hectortimmybatmandiegotigamak |

Replace it as soon as possible! JB weld wont fix it for long, and the crack will expand causing coolant to explode all over the place. This is one thing people shouldn't rig. You can get a new radiator on ebay for like 90bucks. Tried it out and JB isnt holding at all. Called pep boys and they have OEM replacements for 150, Marcus may be able to get that down to 120. I would REALLY REALLY like to get an aluminum but i cannot find them anywhere for under 200. -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

So do you have a muffler on or is it just straight pipe all the way back?

Free shipping.... I bought mine from them. $150 shipped... You can't beat it in my opinion for the price. Almost twice as thick as OEM, all aluminum. This post has been edited by czwalga: Jan 19, 2012 - 10:05 PM -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

i found this one, but its always good to trust someone else's personal experience with a company. sometimes I dont trust how honest the ratings are on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-CELICA-94-9...#ht_3139wt_1344 -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |
