so what are the differences between the models/codes st202/st204/st205?

what does it mean?

ST202 Liftback, Convertible SS-I (3S-FE), SS-II, SS-III, GT (3S-GE) Japan, Europe (Liftback & Convertible), Hong Kong & Singapore (GT Liftback only)

ST204 Coupe, Liftback, Convertible 5S-FE SX, ZR, GT North America (all body styles), Australia & New Zealand (Liftback only)

ST205 Liftback 3S-GTE GT-Four Japan, Europe, Australia, New Zealand

The ST205 is the AWD Turbo motor. The others are variations engine/trim of the FWD motor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3S-FE specs for each engine.

5SFE is 2.2 litre, 3SGE and 3SFE are both 2 litres but one having more power than the other and the 3S-GTE is a turbo charged 3SGE.

st205 is a slightly different chassis with a larger transmission tunnel to accomodate the 4 wheel drive this model has. Carina ED was also available with this chassis and 4WD.

st205 was the last Celica chassis before the 7th Gen, but not the last T20 chassis:

Which is interesting as it would suggest that while the st202, st203 and st204 can't be converted to 4WD as the transmission tunnel isn't big enough, it may be possible to take the crappy at200 plus parts from a st200 Carina ED and convert the Celica to 4WD without serious mods to the chassis. Plus, a non-turbo 4WD has a certain appeal from an insurance viewpoint.

wut about the suspension because ive seen a few struts with three bolts on the rear... but my st204 has 2 bolt holding the strut on the rear where it connects to the chassis!!

BSD that's more information than what I've been able to find on Google about the ST models. Sorry I know this isn't to do with 6GC but I have a '96 Carina ED ST-200 and wanted to try and change out the FWD 4S-FE engine for the 4WD ST205 3S-GTE (gen 3) from a Celica GT4, as the Carina ED was intended to be a 4-door Celica. Obviously such a conversion wouldn't be cheap as the EDs never had the 3S-GTE, the most they had was the 3S-GE and 3S-FE. Do you know how such a conversion would be possible as I'm only really starting to get familiar with these cars? The most I've done with this car is replace the right rear door, stripping all the parts out of the old door and fitting them into the replacement one. I haven't exactly done much else. Once again sorry for being somewhat off-topic but this is the most I've been able to find on the differences in sub-models. Google hasn't been so useful so far, or maybe I'm searching wrong.

hmm can we get some curb weights for for each model. the at200, st202, st204, st205.

Is the st202 with 3sge beams and ss suspension lighter than st202 with regular 3sge and macpherson suspension??

hmm SS-III BEAMS is 10kg heavier than the SS-II or so says:
