I've got a 96 1.8ST ,only had it 6 weeks, but i have vibes thru the steering wheel from 60mph upwards. Its been back to the dealers 3 times now, wheels balanced loads of times, hubs checked, steering checked, wheels changed & it still does it.Anyone got any ideas? Oh & it gets better above 85.

Interesting. It sounds like they're checking all the right things but perhaps they're not doing it right. I'd take the car somewhere else and see what happens. It is most definitely a rotational imbalance by your description. I'm reaching here, but its possible that there is something in the tire other than air. A small rock, some water (condensed from vapor in the air used to fill the tire), or something of that nature. The tire will balance out fine on the machine, but in the real world the foreign object moves around and the tire is out of balance again.

That sounds exactly like out of balance tire(s), go somewhere else and get the tire balance checked again. Or like toe said the forign object (never would have thought of such a thing)

thanks guys, but as the wheels have been swapped from another car and tried (so the garage said) I was thinking that it wasn't the wheels, but maybe the driveshafts?I am probably taking the car back again this week for part 4!!!

Ya man you dont even know how much new tires will effect your ride! I had alot of problems with my old car and thought the worst, and then I got new tires when I was having a pre-safety done and holy **** it makes such a difference, felt like a new car.

I had to have my last set of tires balanced 3 times before the vibration went away. Twice at one shop, and then finally at another shop that did it properly.
Just take the car to a different shop. If the shop you are going to can't fix something, the best way to get it fixed is to go elsewhere. |
