I have a 1997 Celica GT and I was wondering what size the front speakers are, I've looked online and some websites are saying that the size is 6.5. Is that correct? Thanks for the help.

Well, If you have a 6 speaker system (two in each door and two in the back seat) then yes they are 6.5". However, If you have the 8 speaker system (three in each door and two in the back seat) then they are most definitely 8".
They are also a Woofer. not a woofer/mid or a full range speaker. If you go with a 6 or 6.5 coax it will without a doubt sound like $%^&! I know, I've got a 97 vert with the 8" and my speaker surrounds (foam) rotted out. I put 6" in and they sound really bad, compared to the factory ones. Also the factory ones are 2ohm impedance not 4 or 8 ohm--this really affects sound quality too. I'm still saving up to get the factory ones, lowest I've found from toyota are $250 each but I'm fairly sure that includes the housing. Hope this helps. |

If you have the 8" speakers, you can cut them to make them into adapters for a new set of 6.5" speakers. Cut out all of the cone so you're down to just the metal. If you cut out the driver and everything, the ring is just the right size to hold a 6.5" speaker. Did it at home with a dremel when I put new speakers in the 'vert, took just a few minutes.
