Recently the gear light went out in my '95 Celica ST Liftback (got it free as my first car as my brother just bought himself a new car). I pulled out the center console from trial-and-error and eventually got the bulb replaced and such... However, I had to work around getting the shift-lever out to get the cover under the trim (where the cigarette lighter mounts). I see that there's two screws on the front of the shift-lever, and taking those out loosens the lever, but it doesn't go anywhere from there...
I feel like it's something so very simple, but I can't figure it out. I have the Haynes service manual but that's no help. Any help? First post I'm gonna end up replacing the interior dash lights to red lights, that would look awesome IMO. As for performance mods.. I don't plan on doing too much in that regard. I use the car to get back and forth and such and I don't really have the money to improve a fairly weak engine, especially with an AT =_= This post has been edited by solidxsnake: Apr 20, 2009 - 8:11 PM -------------------- ~Moving on to a 2002 Corolla S~ R.I.P Tom Celica - 1994-2010 |

Bump (not sure if that's allowed on this forum, but I did see it earlier. If not, won't happen again. Didn't see a mention in the rules.)

I think the wires for the O/D button are holding it in. If you can locate and disconnect them, it should pull right out.

I did eventually get the bulb replaced, but I didn't actually get the shifter removed, just loose enough for me to jam my hands under and replace the bulb. The wires for the O/D button are what keep the shifter held into the console, if you can remove them (or cut them), the shifter should slide right out.

Bummer..... I have to replace the slide cover, and thought the OD wiring might be a problem. Thanks!
