Ok i got my 97 GT with 174k miles and a slipping clutch, i eventually want a car
with a turbo and was planning on puting a turbo in the gt or swapping the engine however i live in new england and everytime it snows i cant drive nowhere because my car slides all over the road even with snow tires, this is why i also want a AWD car but its more expensive and even more money to turbo it. I need some opinions here, what do you guys think? |

Take it from a former WRX owner. I love my Celica but my WRX was my absolute favorite car ever. Say you get a 2002-2003 bugeye style for pretty cheap. Base power at about 227 hp. Turbo-back exhaust and a stage 2 ecu flash pushes that up to about 300 for under a thousand dollars if you play your cards right, makes the car a lot more fun to drive and is still very reliable/streetable. The cars are a total blast to drive, will go anywhere (and are good at mudding), are fast, have a ton of inexpensive aftermarket mods, and can even get great gas mileage if you go easy on it. I totally say WRX. You could buy one and keep the Celica too for about what you would spend to do a 3s swap with enough mods to put out a WRX's power. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

i say wrx
i just recently got a 03 wrx after wrecking my celica. it is soo much fun to drive. i live in pa so i wanted awd for winter too. i havent driven in snow yet so i can say for sure that its better but it almost has to be. you can find an 02 or 03 with low miles for under 10k easily. and besides subies sound so sweet with a 3 inch TBE as for comparing to the 3s i cant say from my own experience cuz ive never driven a swapped celica but with awd you can handle a lot more power than fwd. just adding an exhaust and reflash to a wrx gets you to like 230 whp. i doubt a 3s could do that. |

depends on your available funds, but if you can afford it I say go with the WRX. If you're a little tight on money build up the celi and purchase a cheap winter beater (old 4wd truck/SUV for instance).

I voted for the WRX because they look freaking good and i love their sound but, that's only because you didn't mention GT-Four... cause i'd take a 4 rather than a STI anytime... unless you need the 4 doors... then i'd go with the STI

Dont buy a WRX. I have owned one and while its a great car it just doesnt feel sporty at all. The driving position is miles to high for one and its crap MPG doesnt help. Insurance is mega high too in the UK at the moment.
Why no mention of a GT4? Surely best of both world here being a celica and 4WD. |

WRX is nice and all since it is newer but if budget is the issue, you would hella save just putting the money into your celi with $$ to spare.

I say get a beater truck or something for the winter driving and enjoy having your extra vehicle.
I just acquired a third vehicle when my wife got a new CR-V for valentines day. Now I feel like I can do anything to my car that I want and not have to worry about being without a car for work. Plus, they only wanted to give us like $2k for trading in her tiberon @nakamura QUOTE Why no mention of a GT4? Surely best of both world here being a celica and 4WD. If he's in a position where its one or the other, then I doubt that he has the $25k or however much it costs to import a 15 yr old celica -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold
