Hey everyone,

I just lowered my 94 GT HB, put some super cheap coilover springs. A couple problems I am having.

1. When I drive over a bump, it makes a loud slamming noise (I am NOT bottoming out). When my friend installed for me, I think he ripped out the bump stops, could this be the problem?

2. When I turn the wheel all the way to one side it will make a spring popping noise, same thing when I turn it back the opposite directions. I am guessing this problem will be fixed once I get allignment fixed.

I do not think these problems are coming from the springs, as I know a couple other people who have these same springs and are not having these issues at all. A bouncy ride is fine with me, but a minor bump or pot hole sounds like a cherry bomb has gone off under the hood.

FYI I do not know much about cars, just basics, so any input would be much appreciated.

1. your shocks are blown. but even if you replace them they are likely gonna get blown again if you use lowering springs with a low spring rate (ie. cheap coilover springs). get stiffer springs. TRDs are your safest option for lowering springs from blowing your shocks.

the coil is popping when you turn because the cheap coil & threaded sleeve isn't compressed on the strut. The coil is binding, and then popping as it spins. Very dangerous. My suggestion to you is invest $500 into a set of KYB struts and TEIN S-tech springs. Then you can thank us for getting you off of eBay special coilovers.

coil is not sitting firm nor installed right. bump stops are a necessary.

Bump stops are very important, I had them missing before I did my suspension and the car used to always bottom out, I don't know why your friend would of taken them out :s

as for the springs making noises it is the rubber thing underneath the strut mount, you can take you whole spring and struts out, compress the springs a little and then turn it, the arrow has to point towards the outside of the car.

I don't think you guys understand a coil and sleeve setup. The spring and sleeve are NOT tall enough to be compressed on the strut. This was the same for my Ground Control setup. With the car on the ground you can still turn the spring on the strut. The spring doesn't sit in a perch like a standard spring.


OP - get rid of the cheap coils. Your problem will go away.

I €bought the same coilovers and had every problem you had. 95celicast explained it right The cheap coil overs did not fit right I paid 50 dollars I should have just thrown the money in the trash cause thats where the coil over are now. I had to buy new name brand springs and the difference was mind blowing.
I learned from my mistakes I will never buy cheap ebay parts again.

thats not true, I understand suspension very well. I've installed these cheap coil and sleeve before and never had those problems but I have seen it in my friends car. It all depends you can never explain someone elses case truely unless youre there. best we can do is just give advice. every case is different. You can still get this same problem with brand name setup if you don't do it right. it all depends.
