Will this vent actually look decent on our 6g celicas? I want to get one and make it functional (cut the hood, adhere the scoop and seal it). I need to get some hot air out of my engine bay, I have the header set up and it is wrapped but everything is still extremely touch hot in there after running the car (city driving). Couple questions though... 1) Will it screw up my SRI set up at all? 2) Obviously on rainy days, rain will get in there a bit, how would I prevent rust and what not to my engine? |

I'm not one to throw out cash without a good reason so I don't want to buy a hood, mine's perfect. I just need to get some hot air out of the engine bay and maybe add some minor looks to the car. My brother has a new celica gt-s and the hood scoop on it is nice looking and his is functional. I just don't want the car to look stupid though.

I will do it, it's only $40 and I can always simply place it on the hood without permanent attatchment and then post up to get a poll or something first. Yeah, I'm doin it.

Good for you.
As for will it look nice, well, that's up to you... If YOU think it looks nice, then why not? Do you REALLY care about what others think about your car? |

thats not a vent, its a scoop.
that will force air INTO the engine bay. a vent lets air out. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Air going in to the engine bay is okay right? It won't mess anything up right? As long as the bay gets cooler than it is right now then either a vent or scoop will work for me.
Yep...I do care what people think about my car, not in a way that is insecure cause I already know my car looks good, but I still want to maintain a clean and professional look about the car. Face it, people like it when their car turns heads. I'm not all about that but I do like it when people look at my car and say, WOW dude those wheels make your car look sick or whatever. It's part of the fun factor of driving a celica. This post has been edited by 6G96GT: May 31, 2009 - 9:00 PM |

Air coming in the front, air coming in from the top. Where is the air going to escape? Do you have an inter cooler that the scoop is going to help cool?

The air would escape to the bottom of the engine with the scoop (forward facing) or it would escape out of the (vent) toward the pass-side window. I don't have an intercooler. I am only concerned with cooling the exterior of the engine because the header creates a lot of heat that heats all the connection switches, radiator hose, and under the hood. I just want to cool it off and any possible air flow created would do that to any degree better than what I have now. |

Here's a modified picture of what my car would look like with the scoop (also the factory side pinstripes have been removed as well). Looks a little funky being modified and not actual.

hmm i was thinking about something like this. not now but later on. Thinking about vents like the gt-four hood. Water gets into you engine bay and things start to rust over time or not really? so thats why a hood scoop would be better.

I was reading a toyota tundra forum where one of the guys ordered a hood scoop and cut his hood and then installed it. He used 2 small metal bars to stiffen it up a bit by making an X from corner to corner under the hood where the hole was cut. He said several months after the job that he had no issues worth noting.
A buddy of mine is the truck mech where I work and he already told me he could make it look factory and stiffen it up. I will keep you guys posted with the progress. |

Alright, the scoop is a NO GO. I am now considering a hood with a vent/scoop already in it. I need advice and help on what to get (brand, carbon fiber, regular material) and where to get it. I have $550 for this option. Help?

Will this hood be good for my car? Remember, my engine bay gets real hot so would that affect this hood? VIS Zyclone Carbon Fiber Hood
