Everyone,
So I'm tired of the stock speakers in my GT; when I got the car they sounded fine but after driving it daily and hearing them in action they aren't as clear or crisp as the Pioneers I put in my previous car. I've now decided to replace the stocks with the following: Front: Pioneer TS-D720C Rear: Pioneer TS-D702P My question is since the system will, at most, output 540W of power can I use the stock amp. or should I go ahead and replace/bypass it with an aftermarket amp? The amp I'm looking at getting is the Alpine PDX-5. PS: Overall, this is the first step towards building my carPC if that makes any difference. Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated. the stock amp will not handle it for very long-i've experienced it. Plus they do not do your aftermarket speakers justice anyways. I would go ahead and get the amp. Im not a fan of pioneer speakers for my opinion.

Im not a fan of pioneer speakers for my opinion. x2. I've had two pairs in the past, and the sound they produce just didn't seem that accurate. -------------------- |

Hm, I've owned a pair of A-series 4x6 Pioneers and the audio sounded pretty good, for a set of entry level speakers, so I figured the high-end D-series would be a good choice. What products do you all use?

I'd look into some ARC Audio speakers. Good price for quality. I own Dynaudio in my celica and plan to go Morel setup in my truck.
Pioneer just isnt all that great for the price they charge. I had two pioneer premier 6/1 coaxial and they were alright. Polk, infinity, ARC all sound better in my opinion. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys; I was going for the Pioneers because I could get them cheaply - $115 for the comps. and $88 for the coaxials - roughly half of MSRP along with the Alpine for about $360 instead of the list $600.
Compared to the ARC Audio gear they're a steal - but I want as much choice as possible so keep the recommendations coming! -------------------- Has no more Celicas

The amp for the ARC makes it a lot more but your looking at a lot better amp. your THD between ARC and the Polk is a big difference. I understand sale prices but I like quality. |

I'm goin with boston sx60's when I get the cash, they sound very good. For something a little cheaper I was also pretty impressed with the kenwood excelon KFC-X172, it sounded great for a cheap coaxial.

um... maybe try Hertz, or Boston Acoustics. I always found Alpine to be overpriced.

those pioneers don't look to bad, sicne they have seperate crossovers(big plus)
I am running a set of entery level focals and they are AMAZING. There are a million brands to choose from and a million people to back up most of them, the best thing to do is to go to a couple different stores and listen to your kinda music on, and see what you like, or do the same thing in different peoples cars. -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

OK guys, some progress.
I went ahead and purchased the Pioneer speakers and a Pioneer DEH-P510UB Headunit. I installed the 720C's yesterday using some of the How-To's here at 6GC and plan on putting the 702P's in today. Figured out my harness issue; it seems I'll need to use the Metra 70-8112 Lexus/Toyota harness adapter. Going to check and see if a local shop has it before buying one online.
