I just finished with my motor rebuild. It fired up nicely but after a quick drive around the block my dashboard flickered and my rpm/speedo/engine temp/clock stopped working. Gauge cluster light still turns on and fuel gauge is still working nothing else.

Basically it acts like my car is off with the key turned one click. If my door is open the warning bell with chime even though the motor is on.

checked all fuses... could a bad ground cause this? hope my problem was clear enough thanks for any input

Ok I think I fixed the problem. I added another ground wire from the battery to the chassis and that seemed to have cured the problem. i also cleaned the area where the ground wires meet the chassis to ensure a clean ground. i drove it around last night and did not have any issues.

If you guys experience any issues like this id recommend checking all plugs first like your speed sensor, and coolant temp. then go ahead and check your ground cables from your battery and make sure they have clear contact with the chassis. if needed i would add another cable for good measure.
