I'm still not sure which HID kit to buy, H4, OR H1. According to everything that I have read, the stock bulb in a JDM projector is an H1 bulb BUT the HID kit or connector we are supposed to buy to make it work is an H4???? GMGcQ

here is a picture of my JDM projector right out of the box:

this is the bulb that came out of it:

this is what it looks like without the bulb:

if you haven't already installed the projectors yet, you might be able to use the 9006 hid kit since you probably still have the stock 9006 harness on the car..
but if you already changed from 9006 to H1/H4 connectors to use the projectors, then you'll need the h1 hid kit.

simply you can't use the 9006 bulbs but you can use the ballasts still. You can get H4/H1 connectors and wire up something. 9006 bulbs just wont fit tried it.

H4 is the type of connector you can use as an alternative if you cannot find H1's. Simply you just don't use the third terminal. I used H4s for example because store did not sell H1 harnesses.

if you are buying HIDS - get h1... that is all you need... all HID kits can hook right up to the 9006 harness
if you are keeping halogens - get an h4 harness... you need it to plug into the bulb and splice into the 9006 harness

the end

the bulb is an h1 bulb with a hybrid two prong harness...

If you need to convert here's all you need:

The pic is dark (sorry, cell pic) but there's 3 connectors on that pigtail. I just took the third middle connector out - VERY easy, use a small screwdriver and it pops right out - and splice the 2 remaining wires into your stock harness.

H1 is clearly different from 9006 in terms of looks and connectors. I made a 9006 to h1/h4 adapter. I guess he is talking about rigging it. only thing that is the same with HIDs is the ballast - the concern is the bulb. the h1 two prong and the 9006 harness is not a perfect mate. ANTI-RIGGER/ANTI-SPLICER.

Exactly. You can run female connectors from the bulb; the other end of the wires can have male connectors to plug into the H1 socket that you've spliced (or however you've added) onto the 9006 harness - obviously make sure you match + to + and - to -

Ok, I know i'm pretty sure I figured it out. To use the projectors with an HID kit you need an H1 HID bulb, I'll post pictures when I get my new bulbs cuz I had to send the H4 back. I think the sticky in this forum isn't clear enough and doesn't have enough pictures so I'll post some more detailed ones.

Yeah I didn't like how they were done either. They left some questions unanswered like the relay thing... apparantly you need a relay or something, I still don't know whats up with that...

Ok, finally installed mine. No relay needed and it was a simple plug and play with the H1 bulbs. I'll post pics later.

Ok, I didn't have my camera around when I got my HID bulbs in the mail and I got excited and installed without taking pictures lol but anyway here are some pictures after the install.

anyway LewFX is right about those plastic circles that come in the bulb packaging if you cut them in a C shape like that then you can make them hold the H1 bulb in firmly without any modification to the projector itself.

Projectors installed:

These are the best places for the ballast that I could find without cutting the 9006 harness to make it longer. Be careful because if you look on the pictures both ballasts are near places where liquid could get on them like the windshield washer reservoir and the coolant overfill reservoir. THe stock 9006 harness fits directly into the kit that I bought with no modification needed at all. No relay or any of that installed, I don't know what people use the relays for. Anyway here are the pics.

So, to summarize:

The H1 kit will bolt right on the JDM Projectors? I am getting these myself, and HID is really interessting to these.

And also: What kind of bulbs fit the inner lights which come with the projectors? 9005?
