Anybody here installed HID's in the fogs?, If you have, please take a look.. Options

Hello!

I ordered some HID's for my fog lights. When they came today, I was really happy and thought this would be a straight bolt-on experience. But no.

HOW am I supposed to get all that wiring inside the fog light cover on the backside? Because, there is four cables which should go inside there...

- 2 cables from the xenon bulb and out
- 2 cables from the original socket where you put the original H3 bulb. They are supposed to go out too.

It almost looks like this:



The four cables, and a rubber cover thing. This is from another car, though, and it is not H3 connectors on the blue and black cable. But you guys will understand!

I cant see a way through this to just do a modification to the cover on the backside. I must drill some huge holes in it, and seal it with some silicone. Thats the only way I have figured now. But maybe some of you guys here know another better way? Maybe a way to bypass any modification?

Huh?

2 wires plug into the HID bulb
1 or two (don't remember off hand) plug into the ballast
1 plugs into the socket the original bulb plugged into (fog light wiring harness)

what i did was remove the negative terminal on the inside of the fog light, then plug these two to those wires. positive and negative, you will have trouble getting it into the factory harness, it simply won't fit.

Thats exactly the problem.. What did you do? You cant get the cover back on with all that cables inside..

sorry for the late reply, I am in oxnard, CA right now, not at home where I can regularly use a system. Simply, the cover wont go back on that is why the bulbs come with a rubber cover. there is a positive and negative wires from the HID bulb, you plug this into where you normally plug in the regular bulb on the positive side, then secure the connection. For the negative wire, you first release the negative wire from the fog grounding casing, you will notice it is a female connected to the metal casing inside the fog, release it and this is where you plug in your HID negative wire. Your factory harness will be left unchanged, you keep it where it is at since you already connected everything from inside the fog casing. As much as you can, keep all the wires safely in the fog casing and then use the rubber cover over it. you will basically leave the factory cover just hanging there only because the HID bulb needs that seperate individual harness to plug into the ballast. If this wasn't needed your problem would simply be solved. However just follow the simple steps, most cars deal with the fog light installation this way anyways.

Okay thanks! I think i have to make some custom covers to avoid humidity inside the fog light casing. I will give you pictures later!

I've ordered direct replacement H3 LED bulbs, they have 4 sides + the top with SMT (surface mounted) LEDs so 360 degrees and use 2 watts power instead of 55 watts for stock halogens or 35 watts for HIDs.

I figured this to be a better way of getting white light out of the fogs all the while lowering (or preventing an increase of) the load on the alternator.

I had H3 LED bulb with like a lot of LEDs on it, it was white but it was really dim. I hated the H3 LED bulbs, prefer stocks instead.

i cut a little square arround that cap..where the cables can came out, no further mods.
