Hi Guys and Girls,
I own a 1994 ST202 3SGE Auto Celica, long story short the gearbox or diff(?) decided to go crunch last week while I was driving along on the freeway here in Australia. The car has 218,000 K's on the clock so is getting a bit old, the question I have is does anyone know what I'd be up for cost wise and is the gearbox the same as the camry or RAV4 can it just be swapped in? Also what are the chances it did damage to the engine? I was doing 120km/h at the time. |

Unless is exploded and sent shrapnel everywhere the motor it should be fine. So there was a crunching noise and you coasted to a stop?

Yeah there's definitely shrapnel, the car made a noise like a belt snapping then metal grinding, after that the car shuddered and the engine cut out. Can I use any a140e gearbox of does it have to be the a140e-05a which is what it states it is on the build plate?

Well, the only way to know for sure is once you're into it. Engine could've died just from how the transmission failed, it bound up the flex plate for instance. As far as other cars with the same transmission, here are some that're for sure:
1983-2001 Camry (4 cyl) 1986-1989 Celica GT/GT-S (with ECT-S) 1994-1999 Celica GT 1999-2001 Solara (4 cyl) -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
