I will be replacing it and all, with the help of a buddy, I wanted to know if there was anything i should be aware of or know before doing it. any tips etc? its a pretty straight forward process, so hopefully it will go off without a hitch, im thinking about replacing the timing belt while im in there but idk.
any advice would be Greatly appreciated! cheers! -------------------- |

Look at me.... look at me.....
I'm proud of you! just loosen/remove the alternator belt, then undo the crank bolt, and remove the pulley. If you cant get the pulley off, you might need to go rent/buy a pulley puller. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

LOL! thanks lagos! thats means alot to me! (told ya i would get my head outta my ass when i got a beater, AND my car back )
ive been reading that its a PITA to get harmonic balancers off without it spinning... no power tools available, so breaker bar it is! btw... should i be able to get my grubby hands on a proper air tool, what are the torque specifications to put it back on? and if i cant get an air tool im thinking about bypassing extra muscle-->elbow grease-->puttin my back into it---> straight to ROID rage strenth! -------------------- |

sometimes air tools cant get those things off.
a cool trick that people recommend is to put your socket on a breaker bar, and wedge the bar against the floor. then blip the starter (pull out your efi fuse so the car dont start) a few times and use the torque of the starter to get the bolt off. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Just put it in gear. "sounds" scary, but it works. but, if you have a lightweight flywheel, with a bolted on ring gear, like the fidanza, you do not want to do that. the shock of doing it can round out the bolt holes and ruin the flywheel. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

great news!! SUCCESS!!! My homeboy buk gon helped me out, and everything runs great! timing belt was in good shape, but the power steering belt was average so i went and got a new one since we were down there. i used the breaker bar against the ground trick but i didnt pull the EFI i just unplugged my coilpacks. came right off! now all i gotta do is go to a friends house and torque the bolt just to be safe!
and all is well in the jungle... for now... DEFINATELY need to tune... car is beastly but seems like im hitting fuel cut @ certain rpms, will investiage further later. This post has been edited by easternpiro1: Jul 13, 2009 - 11:50 PM -------------------- |
