What up Slick. When did you open up your shop? You know we are planning a SoCal meet... Maybe you can stop by? Let me know how running the shop goes, because I plan on doing one in the far far future maybe up north or out of state, and it would be great to get a reality check from someone with the experience. I got years to go though, with school and all.

Yeah the shop is doing very well we have been open a year now this month, we opened right b4 the economy went in the crapper. However we have been doing very well and making progress. But if u need any help in getting your own business off the ground, let me know, since u say its far off the best advice i can give u is keep your credit score up, get all the meaningless pieces of paper at the tech schools (like the certs. and all that stuff, even the one u think are dumb), the banks look at all that stuff even more so now to see if your serious and know your stuff. Its very gratifying but very hard work!!! I wanted 2 be my own boss and work my own hours and i sure do... i get to work any 16 hours of the day i choose wink.gif

That sounds awesome, that is exactly what I was wanting to hear from someone I respect and who has experience. Thanks, and I will hold you to that when the time comes. ;-)

And I am glad that it is going really well for you. It sounds like you are banking on your sacrifices.

if your ever in so cal let me know i am in san bernardino u can come hangout at the shop and even wrench on a few cars at your own pace. The hardest part is the diagnostics for the most part, I mean anyone who can read can replace parts a good tech needs to be able to track down problems correctly and fix them all in a timely manner. And a great tech prevents more problems then he fixes thumbsup.gif So u plans on working on cars, bikes or anything with motor that people will pay u to fix?

Yeah, actually I am in an Engine Overhaul class and when it comes time to intern to get ASE certified, I will be looking for a place either in SoCal or up North, I just want to get out of Central Valley Cali, because all the cities suck in between.

I am not in UTI or anything like that, because I am also working towards a degree in business. I think that would be ok until I decide if I want to take it further and attack my BA, maybe Auto Engineer or something for that degree would be nice. I dunno. Having a degree is important to me now, because when I worked for Nestle, I will never forget this one guy who got hired on, I forgot what exactly his job was. I just know he had a degree in Theater, which has nothing to do with Nestle, and was starting there making $75k/yr.
