Its cheaper to build it right the first time and it will last longer. I love everything that you did! Are you really doing another one?

Nice work, everything looks great but, the cell sits really low, I would be worried about dragging that.
I would have the components fabbed up and sell them as a kit. I don't think I would be selling cad files unless you get a crap load for them. I have had people ask me for cad files, and I don't give that stuff away anymore. Helping fellow members is one thing, but you wouldn't ask an engine builder to build an engine for free, or a painter to paint a car for free so why should cad designs be any different. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

Honestly though, how much do you think he could actually get for them. There's been what a handful of AWD swaps? You still have to weld the mounts in and its not a bolt in solution. Anyone that is going to tackle the AWD swap probably could make the mounts themselves anyways, just easier to buy them or copy if they are out there. It's not as if they are the cad files to a bolt in subframe that lets you mount a badass motor in your car that a lot of people will actually attempt. I've offered to buy the prefabbed mounts from him if the price is reasonible, otherwise i'll just build my own, I think most people attempting the swap would do the same. Anyways really nice work. I just bought a GT4 gas tank on ebay japan. I paid $350 after shipping... expensive but no more expensive than a fuel cell setup; especially for me since rally america requires fia homologated fuel cells. If you're worried about the tank dragging/looks keep your eye out for one. This post has been edited by czwalga: Dec 2, 2010 - 7:25 AM -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

If you're worried about the tank dragging/looks keep your eye out for one. I agree, anyone attempting this is going to probaly have the skills to make there own anyway. I would go a completly different route if I wanted to do this. I would use the rear clip of a GT4 and weld on the part that is already fabbed up from the factory. Then do a 3rd gen swap like the ones that are already proven to work well, RHD is cool, but I am no mailman. I would be fine with a USDM front and leave the vin in place. I have no air qualty testing where I live so it would still be an ST with the same VIN, and simple to license. It will never happen so don't wait for a build thread, something about dumping 10K into a car that books for around 3k is not high on my priority list, damn I sound old. lol Mad props on the build, I am sure it will be a lot of fun. -------------------- JDM guy made me do it.

It'll just save some major time not needing to mock everything up and measure and repeat over and over until its right. We don't necessarily need the CAD files. Just measurements. Why can't we be more like the mr2 forums and just help the community out?

This is why I don't. I took the time to measure and draw something, then another member took the original images I posted, and posted them to the 6gc photobucket as his own. Also another member now makes them and sells them. I will do R&D work for free for a select few, people I trust.

This issue comes up every so often, the line between getting help from someone and taking advantage of other people is very fine.
I think other people's time, effort and dedication into something like this is more than enough support to the community, noone has request corbeau measurements of their seat brackets for the celica, and god knows they are far easier to weld together than one of these AWD support brackets. with as little support the celica has, and people like us scaring away the ones with the talent to develop those so needed parts, is not a surprise our cars are so underdeveloped as they are ( US marketed cars ) when someone develops something like this, I don't think trying to make some cash from it is " not contributing to the community ", imagine if there were a few more people wtih the talent that doGGy and others have shown and they all develop those parts that we can't get or dont even exist at an affordable price, where we can take our cars, but instead we try to find a way to make our own version of... like those cheap fragances at family dollars, which is perfectly fine, but don't try to get measurements, dimensions, specs if you intend to make your own, to call something " my owm " I'd have to build it straight from scratch. -------------------- |

If dimensions never get shared, I'll figure it out on my own. I was just trying to save some time. I'm not one to jack someones ideas and call it my own. For example Scarecrow from MR2OC who lives near me has an amazing mr2 he built. Showed me specs and helped me build the honda chrome conversion on my 3sgte, because he has it on his own mr2. I tell everyone I got the idea and help from him. He also built himself brackets to use Porsche calipers. Told me that the ls430 would best suit the Celica and I did as he said. Without inspiration and help from him, I would be lost with suspension and the tuning aspect of our cars.
The brackets for the awd set-up really doesn't look that complicated. I know how to fabricate and weld myself, so I know it wouldn't be hard at all. Just wanted a rough idea and to save some time. -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

QUOTE like those cheap fragances at family dollars all he needs to do is to sell the CAD to somebody that can build them and sell em. Period. or sell them himself. It will be cool! But an awesome build. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL
If you PM me and I dont respond, dont fret or cry. Im alive, better post your questions in the thread below, maybe I log back in 2grfe Swapped... Why I chose the 2GR, before you ask read here...
