Hi guys the other day my check engine light came on then it happened the next day, also both times it went back off in a few minutes but now I have a code 71 for EGR system in my computer. Both times when it happened the car ran the same. So I am not too concerned but I am trying to tune up the motor and am concerned as to what sensors this could be identifying as bad or what it means???? This isn't for the o2 sensor correct I believe that code is a 27? Could it just be a dirty throttle body? What exactly does the EGR system include? Any thoughts.....Thanks guys......

Also I have a wideband innovate AFR gauge hooked up and my afr range is 14.1 to 14.9 at cruise 3,000 rpm 60mph. Now I can't find anywhere if it is normal for the AFR to fluctuate that much at cruise? It also fluctuates at idle 14.4 to 14.8 I am guessing it is normal. Anyone have any professional tuning experience? Thanks again......

code 71 is egr gas temp too low. now that could mean the egr system is faulty, or the egr temp sensor is bad.

Thanks for the reply, I wonder how the gas temp could become too low??? Probably a faulty sensor?????

its probably the sensor. or a blockage in the egr tube, or a faulty egr valve - in order of probability.

Thanks for all the responses when I get some free time I'll have to try and clean out the egr system. I thought AFR was probably o.k. but I wanted to be sure so thanks......
