I spent some of my birthday Monday trying to cheer up my ex-girlfriend. Her friend was killed in a car accident. Her boy friend was racing some guy in New Orleans. Now his girl friend is dead and he probably will be charged w/ vehicle man-slaugter. He was doing over 100 when he lost control and hit another car. The seat belt broke Stephanie's neck and killed her instantly. She was suppose to start on her high school softball team this year as the lead pitcher. Being stupid and not responsible for her/his actions caused her to lose her life. Kids need to learn that cars arent play things that they are machines and can easily lead to death. If you want to race go to a track/strip and do it there. Dont endanger other peoples lives.

New Orleans Times-Picayune-

A 16-year-old Slidell girl was killed late Sunday when the car in which she was riding was struck by another vehicle in eastern New Orleans, police said.

Stephanie Subervielle died at Charity Hospital of head and internal injuries, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish coroner's office.

The accident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the 14000 block of Old Gentilly Road, police said. Subervielle was a passenger in a westbound 1996 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Brenden Mistrot, 17, police said.

Mistrot apparently lost control of his car, police said, and it was hit by an eastbound 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo occupied by driver Dino Huy, 17, and a passenger.

No information on Mistrot, Huy or Huy's passenger was available Monday.

Police have not decided whether charges will be filed against either driver, police spokeswoman Jonette Williams said.

Traffic fatality officer Vernell Brown is in charge of the investigation.

monte carlo was going the opposite way, wasnt racing. They hit the car when they lose control and he put her into the oncoming car. The article isnt very clear.

Street racing isnt the greatest idea, but I hate how only teenagers get the bad rap for it. Granted probably 2/3rds are teenagers and young adults but there are plenty of older guys who show off their cars also.

yeah but its the teens who suck at driving. thats why they are the ones that die all the time.

im going to force my kids to drive a minivan so they wont even think about racing. cause if they do they will look like a big ass fool.

I blah who ever let them get the 96 camaro, because say if he were in a civic, he wouldnt have been going that fast. also wouldnt have as much temptation to race. Its very said that kinda stuff happens, an even more to the passenger. Thats a good reason why people shouldnt ride with dumbasses like that. Still very sorry, also yuor a nice guys to be helping out an ex.

as far as actual normal (reg) drving I think its middle age people who are the worst, both men and women are horrible at it, my commute to tukwila is scary sometimes because of the adults cutting people off, tailgating is the worst, for me especualy because i was rear ended badly by an 50 yr old in my civic so it makes me really nurvous, there to confidant behind the wheel, like me I know I have only been driveing for a few years so I generaly take things easy and stay safe, but there so high on coffie and late for work probilby, that they endanger my life.

not to mention that elderly people dont have to be retested to renew there lisence till they reach 100, how sick is that, people should have to be retested at 60, 65, 70, 75, 76, 77, 78.... or not be able to renew.

its funny watching the news, because its like every time there is a crash (of a middle age person) its not a big deal, they just say theres a crash and where etc. or not dont mention it at all. but if its a teenager they make a point to say the age and cover it more, giving us a false idea that teens make up the most car crashes.

damned domestics. Being young and having a fast car isn't always good. There should be a rule that you have to have to be atleast 18 to drive a sportscar... When I was 16 though...I had a nasty accident, my best friend died and came back, we hit a tree doing 65 down a backroad...the car engine smashed thru the dash, crushed part of my legs, broke my arm and wrist and I had pieces of glass that sliced thru my veins...needless to say.. I don't F around on roads I don't know anymore at high speeds..but, I do love curvy roads now cuz of my Celicas.

very sad story im sorry chucho happy birthday though! what kinda struck me odd was the wording "Mistrot apparently lost control of his car, police said, and it was hit by an eastbound 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo occupied by driver Dino Huy, 17, and a passenger." IMO very odd how he lost control yet it was the monte carlo that hit him... confused.gif

He was heading westbound. He lost control and cut across a median, where the other car hit his passenger side where the girl was sitting. The car hit her door and the impact of the hit snapped her neck. Really sad incident but what can you do.

I was a good friend of Stephanies. I have been riding horses with her mom for 5 years. I am still, after 9 months, in shock. I thought it would have registered by now, it's been almost a whole year. But I still can't believe it. What is your ex-girl friends name? I might know her. My name is Vicky Chiri.

Yea, I hate street racing. Just a bunch of idiots putting innocent people in danger. I swear, since I've been driving my celica every other sports car wants to race me. Then when I look at the driver it's just some punk ass teen. Even though I'm only 16, I still don't do stupid things on public roads.

I have to go to court because of a dumb**s 16 year old. At a stoplight he stopped next to me with his crappy crx reving the hell out of his engine, light turns green he takes off. As he does this a cop is in the opposite lane goin the other direction, the cop turns around stops me and him. The idiot made the cop think i was racing with him. Cop did not believe me and now i have to go and beg a Judge to believe or my insurance will probably triple next month.

Well I've had the Celi since I was 16. I'm 18 now and I still street race(rarely). I still speed all the time. I only speed on the roads I know and where there won't be any cops or kids playing around or many cars. I'm trying to point out that wether you're 16, 18, 24, whatever, you can't really put an age on when you should be able to drive a sportscar. I know many cars that wouldn't be considered a "sports car" and can go just as fast or faster than a real sports car. Any car can pretty easily do 100MPH+ so it's really any car in this "fast car" category. I get what you mean tho, I just felt I'd point that out. I know it's stupid to speed and race and all but I'm smart about it. Common sense will get you through that.

I'm real sorry about what happend to your girlfriend's friend. I actually had a friend that died in an accident a couple of weeks ago(he was the passenger). No matter how many times you promote not drinking and driving and to not street race, someone will always do it. Unfortunately that's the way it is. No matter how many times an example is placed before us, people will still do it. Very very few will listen until it happens to them or someone close to them. I've just learned to live with that weird concept(I know it makes no sense but that's society). I'm so used to it that every new story is not surprising anymore. I don't know. I just felt like expressing how I feel about the topic. Be safe people.

Another weird thing I noticed is that when people street race, I know some that race with one hand on the steering wheel. Drive with two.The people in Fast and the Furious do it like that so that obviously is the cool thing to do.

In all seriousness tho, sorry about what happened and I'm glad to hear that you're helping your girl cope with it.
