Couldn't you just buy one from the owner and register it in the states as buying from up north? Or have a Canadian drive down here to sell and buy the person a ticket back. Everyway is wrong lol! I was very close to doing the second option but decided against it.

If its after '89 but before '96 and compiles with FMVSS then it can be imported under Import Eligibility Number VSA-80
(b) All passenger cars manufactured on or after September 1, 1989, and before September 1, 1996, that, as originally manufactured, are equipped with an automatic restraint system that complies with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208;
To prove it conforms you'd need a letter from Toyota stating so. Most likely they'll say the speedometer and headlights do not, which is okay.
Next you have to find a legally registered importer.
Then you just gotta get it (US) titled, registered, and tagged; which is the hard part since DMV people like to be-

If you're importing it from Canada everything is about the same, except for you'd get a specific importation form from customs for Canada and check box 2B (whilst still providing that letter from Toyota)

None of this means you'll succeed in getting it here as it'd be at the discretion of multiple people but it'd be worth the try if you wanted to legally import and drive one.
