Well most A/C systems consist of a condenser, evaporator, receiver/dryer and a compressor. Plus the lines to carry the refrigerant, wiring to operate it and send a signal to the ecu that the idle has to be adjusted upwards when the A/c is on. If your car already has some of these items installed then you are in luck. Otherwise you will have a tough time installing it on a car that didn't come equipped. There are various aftermarket A/C kits(most too large for a celica) or you could rip a whole system out of a parts car. Honestly though, if your car never had it you'd be better off selling and using the $ to buy a different celica with air.

you wanna fit climate control or A/C? not much more to the CC and it's better than normal AC

how much weight would u save if you owere to remove all of the a/c compenents on the celica. would the heater still fucntion when you turn the heat on?
how hard is it to take out and reinstall the a/c... This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Sep 2, 2009 - 10:23 AM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

this has gotten ridiculous... first every celica has A/c.... most likely your compressor is shot or freon (spelling?) is gone...
removing A/C is very tough and time consuming... heater core has nothing to do with A/C... only fan blower is linked between the two... the compressor is very heavy and is linked right to the aux belt... removing it frees up quite a deal of horsepower.... but so does turning it off... lol... the A/C has a clutch built in that disengages when its off... so you would free up the weight.... the condensor is not very heavy but does allow better air flow to the radiator when removed.... other than that its a waste of time and has to be done by someone that can decompress the system... so pros only unless you want to die -------------------- Breaking Axles...

Your heat would still work, but the weight savings would maybe be 20 pounds. Difficulty is totally not worth it, you're talking about pulling all the lines, etc, pulling the dash to get to stuff, you get the picture. Plus needing a machine to evacuate the refrigerant. Unless you're building a track car and removing everything other than the drivetrain and driver controls you might as well keep the a/c. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

when i removed the climate control from my donor car i just undid the A/C pipes and it decompressed itself for me lol. you can remove the ac stuff from under dash without to much trouble, just need to take glove box out for access.

Freon is R12 toyota use R134 which is not Freon either way I would not recommend evacuating it yourself. 1: it's illegal, 2: it's very harmful to your body There's a reason you have to be MACS certified to do this kind of stuff. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

oh ok guys got it. I guess its not worth the hassle. I just guessed that since the 96-98 integra type r is about 200 lbs lighter, it doesnt have ac and has thinner windshield along with no sound insulation. I though removing the a/c would give the celica a pretty good weight reduction.

R134a is the SAME chemical as that "canned air" everyone seems to use on PCs. Although yes its bad, you won't inhale enough to cause damage.
