**EDIT PICS** Getting '95 GT soon, what to do to it? Options

I am buying a 1995 Celica GT soon. I was wondering what modifications I should do to it first. Right now the car is bone stock. It has the 2.2L 5S-FE engine. It has an automatic transmission.

I was thinking about putting rims, GT-Four spoiler, turbo charger, cold-air intake, sound system, tinted windows etc...

I am looking for performance upgrades as well as cosmetic upgrades. Price is not a huge concern, I want to hear all suggestions.

I'll give you the advice that everyone gave me.

If money limits you, do small tasteful things. Remove the Toyota Celica GT emblems from the back, get some headers, maybe an exhaust, cold air intake, etc. But if money doesn't limit you.... Go crazy and keep us updated

Otherwise, it sounds like you've got a decent plan. I would swap a 5 speed in before you turbo the car, but it sounds like a decent plan. My only advice is don't take advice from anybody with any Civics- just be tasteful.

If money isn't a concern then go buy a GT-Four instead

But if you're dead set on this GT then I would start with a 3S-GTE swap from a GT-Four, with intake, exhaust, boost controller, etc.


Then GT-Four riser blocks or go spoilerless, Tein S-tech springs with KYB gr2 shocks, tint, etc.

I wanted to get the GT-Four, it was in my budget as well. The only problem is that I am 17 right now, living with my parents. I'm going to be sharing the Celica with my older sister, since we can't afford insurance on two separate cars. She can't drive standard, and she has no intention to learn, so I'm stuck with automatic.

BTW, I didn't mean that money isn't a concern, I only meant that I want to hear all suggestions, no matter how much they cost, just to get a feel for what I can afford to do to the car.

Keep the GT in good mechanical and cosmetic order until the vehicle is owned by one person - not shared by two. No point in putting money into it if the other owner doesn't like/respect/care as much as you do.

I'm not sure about that. I mean, I appreciate the advice, it's just that I am going to be keeping this car for a while, and I really am looking forward to upgrading it. Buying a GT-Four isn't really an option for me anytime soon.

That really is the best advice though. There's no point in upgrading a car if the other driver won't take any car of it. Any upgrade can be easily destroyed by a lack of care. It only takes one second of inattention to total a car out, and every penny spent was wasted. The best thing you can do while you share the car is just to make sure that it stays it's best. Just out of curiosity, how long will you be sharing the car? If you maintain the car an instead of modding it, save your money, then by the time you are done sharing the car and it's completely yours, you will be able to do whatever you want with it.

Thing is I have no idea how long we'll be sharing the car. She's trying to get in to med school in the states, so whenever she gets in is when I get it to myself. It could be as early as one year from now to as late as a few years. That's why I'm not really prepared to wait that long with my Celica all stock.

If that's the case then your list should be:

- Get the car into top-notch mechanical order (take care of any regular maint. (oil and filter changes, etc.), replace broken or worn out interior bits, and other things that affect car's reliability)
- Replace stock tails with JDM tails
- Build your own Short Ram Intake (SRI) or Cold Air Intake (CAI)

After that do the small things your sister won't immediately notice or care about.

As hard as it is to accept, you simply aren't in a good position to do mods to the car besides exterior and basic bolt-ons. Like everyone suggests, do small nifty things to the Celica till your sister gets her own car, THEN have fun. Whatever route you take though is ultimately up to you.

Interior looks pretty clean. I suggest buying a plastic cocoon for the interior to keep her makeup, glitter, etc. off of the surfaces, and some go-kart rubber on the bumpers and pretty much every surface of the exterior.
