Well in the process of modifying my car I've yet to find a penis or a vagina, but when I do, I'll let ya know!
Till then, I'll be calling the car "it". This post has been edited by CastrolCelica: Jan 8, 2010 - 1:21 PM -------------------- |

the way i see it, if people think the 6th gen is a girl's car, it is no different than calling the infamous pure adrenaline supra a girls' car. after all, they DO both look alike...
the 7th gen will always look girly to my eyes no matter what they do to it (body kit, dropped, rims, etc...) |

Let me start off by saying that I see any car prized by a male as a female...don't know why, it's just so in my head. I do the same thing, my car's my baby.
I used to think that designating gender to a car was due to styling...however, I think it has more to do with the drivetrain in respect to styling. In my eyes, a 6GC is sexy and sensuous, yaddayadda...yet the USDM engines have no balls. So it can be argued that it's a girl's car because it looks pretty, yet is slow. A GT-4, on the other hand, is an entirely different thing...I consider that a true guy's car. Having said that, I still love my baby over pretty much anything. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Is our 6gc or maybe celicas in general a boy or girl car, i think of it as a man car, but everyone seems to think it is a dinky girl car... wth !!!!!! It seems like the complete opposite in my general proximity. I've always been asked what year it is, and when I explain that it's a '97, I usually receive a dumbfounded look and a comment expecting that it's '00 or newer. Shame on whoever says it's "dinky". Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be a chick car, though, it's definitely a chick. I mean look at those curves! -------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a fun thread.
I think we need to clarify the question though. There is a big difference between a car that is marketed towards women, and a car that has a female gender assigned to it. So the answer to the first question seems to suggest that 6gc was marketed more towards women than men. The answer to the second question is that the gender of the car should be assigned based on the gender of the driver, and perhaps also their sexual orientation (lol) So for me, I regard my GT4 as female: I am a male hetro driver and she is (one of) my girls lol. Also, when you think about it, you spend money on her, and if you neglect her she starts to mis-behave. Sounds like a girl to me. Of course to re-enforce that, and has aready been mentioned, the 6gc has great curves. The Ford Cosworth, for example, could put forward a much stronger case for being a male car. |

The Celica was marketed toward Women from `86 onward. The Alltrac/GT4 wasn't marketed much, but what marketing there was for it was aimed at men, particularly race fans.
However, the 6th Gen, lacking a USDM GT4 variant was marketed toward women. As for assigning gender toward a car, it has a lot to do with the car's perceived personality. Both of my Celicas are Female; Chaos and Mudhoney. However, my `67 New Yorker is male; Socrates. The difference here is the stately presence he exudes. While both Chaos and Mudhoney are chomping at the bit and raring to tear up the next corner, Socrates commands respect from his mere presence. It is in my mind that both Chaos and Mudhoney are young girls thriving on the next experience that life has to offer, while Socrates has been there, seen it, and written the 'How To' manual on it. This is just my opinion on the matter. Here for a difference is my wife's. She has owned two cars in her life. Both Buick Regals. Her first car, she named Dolly, because the car had a big long nose, similar to a renowned singers ample bosoms. This car was inherently female. However, her second Regal, she named Parton, in homage of her first car, which was named after the singer. This car however, is male. Again, I think it is all in the perspective of the owner and the personality they assign to the car. Without this assigned personality, a car is just a car, and as such an asexual mechanical mode of transport. Being a 'Car Guy,' I can not accept that. My car is an extension of myself, and as such will have a personality unique to what I perceive of the car. -------------------- Your thinking privileges have been revoked!

Heres my opinion, I would rather have a car that attracts ladies more than men thats what I prefer. In all seriousness though I can give less of a hoot if people say it is a girls car I personally don't think it is. I love my car and I think thats all that really matters.

Holy crap, dude...where you've been? Eh, I only lurk here from time to time. I am on nearly all the Celica sites, I just spend more time on some than others. I am still around though. -------------------- Your thinking privileges have been revoked!
