If this car doesn't amount to anything then I just don't really see myself owning any Toyota newer than 99. Went to the Toyota dealer to test drive a Corolla before buying our Mazda3 and that thing was a yawn factory. Toyota needs something exciting!
Plus, even if there is a turbo option I thought it was going to be in the Subaru lineup? -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Not only that - the Subaru version (the version I would have gone for) might be Europe-only.
Toyota is so out of touch it's ridiculous. -------------------- |

I'm not so sure that that Scion FR-S is real. The original FT-86 has a picture that looks just like that, so I think that Scion is just a Photoshop job.
Let's all go buy Evo's instead. At least Mitsubishi is building a proper car. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

can somebody please direct me to a number where i can talk to somebody at toyota? like customer satisfaction or something? i'll even call japan if i have to so i can rant. i dont care if it falls upon deaf ears.
HELL at this point i dont care if the person im speaking to can understand american!! oh and that link johnnyny posted has some wintastic comments lol for example: Dear FR-S, I am writing this letter to help you along on your journey. What do you have to learn from me you say? Well, the answer should be somewhat obvious. I too, was shouldered with the responsibility of saving a dying brand. You will be launched with much fanfare and applause from the community of hardcore car guys and auto enthusiasts. You will bask in the limelight of glowing reviews from the car mags and many blogs and websites around the world. Life will be good. Slowly, but surely, the praise will start to fade. Not for any wrongdoing on your part, but the public is a fickle beast. You will still be respected by your hardcore base, but the buying public as a whole might have missed the initial blitz of your arrival. If they had infact glossed over your arrival, chances are they might not consider you at all when they see you for the first time. "Don't you know who I am?" will fall on deaf ears. Your bretheren in the showroom will not understand you. A life of staring at FWD siblings most of whome lack even performance aspirations will not help to move you into the mainstream. You will always be a niche product, in a niche brand that sadly, is losing ground. FR-S, enjoy it while it lasts. For as you go, Scion may not. I wish you better success than I, but if not, the Orphan Car Counceling group meets Wednesday nights at Nash's house. We will be there if you need us. Please bring a snack of your choice. Thank you, G8. PS - Plymouth is allergic to peanuts. This post has been edited by easternpiro1: Oct 11, 2010 - 6:57 PM -------------------- |

And...we're back to square one.
I saw this over the weekend and it just crushed my heart - until this car hits an auto show in production form everything else is scuttlebutt. We might as well all assume Toyota is going to screw the pooch on this one...they have a history of doing so. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

oh and that link johnnyny posted has some wintastic comments lol Yeah, sure did! As long as it delivers on the promised FR driveline and comparatively light weight, I couldn't care less what it looks like or if it were badged a Diahatsu SuperFishCakeHappyTime Anal Leakage Special Edition. When I was buying my truck I spent obscene amount of time at toyota dealership. The general rumor that was going around was that scion will be coming out with a new sporty car. That was back in april. This could very well be it.
So lets settle a couple of things. #1 I am shocked.. once again that you guys are shocked about toyota not manifesting their ideas into a car. Look lads I keep telling you again and again and again. Toyota has pulled out of every single spot they were involved as a manufacturer. Now they are nothing more than a supplier and even then they supply engine blocks which are built with 90% custom aftermarket parts borrowed from other makes and models. In simple terms that quite literally means that toyota has NO reason to built and or create any sports cars now or in foreseeable future. More so.. they realized that their sports brand was not selling well and there are far more people interested in family cars than there are people interested in sport cars. #2 stop fantasizing about ft-86. Car manufacturers make concepts all the time. I mean ALL the time. They look at what people are blogging about and how public responds to certain parts and THEN they make it a production vehicle that loosely resembles the concept AND is a shallow version of what could be. Lets have a look at the following concepts: A-bat is pretty much a tacoma/tundra crown concept is available overseas as crown f3r is scion xb ft-ev is their iq and so on and so fourth. If you are looking for visionaries dont look further than chevrolet. Manufactured in canada the new bumblebee camaros come craptastic with really weak engine at affordable price. THEN they are also offer other engines with consequent increase in price. GM realized that since people are into swapping engines anyways they might as well build a shell like hondas and make their engines interchangeable. So... All you fanboys and fangirls.. for love of sweet mother teresa please stop waiting for something that will never come. There is no reason for it to come because cars of the future are smaller, slower and more affordable. In other words they will not be fast... they just need to look fast(er) than a turtle. Just look at kia's line up. 2010 kia forte coupe looks like its on steroids. I was standing next to one yesterday and I was like daaam son. Hynday genesis coupe looks like its wow without the "wow".. it seems like every single manufacturer is going that route because they realize that people are more interested if they can hook up a ipod to a vacuum cleaner than how fast their car can go. In any event I would say that there is no sense in saving up or hoping for something that may or may never come. More importantly in 5 years your priorities may change and even if your dream car is invented you may not be in a position to buy it. -------------------- Captain Pessimist
