Toyota now own a majority steak in FHI anyway(and everything else really tongue.gif). So expect to see many crossovers in the years to come

Fun fact for everyone up untill 1998 or so missan (nissan) owned a 20% majority.

At the end of the day i dont care about the joint partnership, sure ide rather all toyota but if you dont like something change it.
Dont forget that the tuning companies will go fncking mental with engine and chassis aftermarket support for this car.

I hope Toyota built the transmission....

If it's a Subaru 6sp trans I will definitely be opting for the paddles.... I don't want a transmission made of glass.

Toyota's stake in FHI is still a minority one -- but in the complicated web that is corporate ownership, Toyota has a majority ownership in Daihatsu, which supplies FHI/Subaru with a minicar (a Toyota facility used to make that car), and Subaru owns a Camry-producing factory in Indiana.

I bet there'll be a hybrid version announced before the actual release of the car.

Another FT-86 article. It's even mentioned that the Subaru version might be called a BRZ

mehh mcpherson up front??? not the greatest. I guess they couldn't really build a double wishbone upfront due to the wide stance of the engine. Said to have the lowest center of gravity every built for any production car. THey said they are going to launch it everywhere else in the world next year by spring, but besides japan? how does that make any sense. It will be called a toyota everywhere else but in the USA.

It says somewhere in their about it having stability control and traction control that will be permanent on the car?? The engineer says they don't want to put any electronics on the car, but then it says something about having it?? so which one is it?? They should make it like the first s2000 that came out. None of those electronics that get in the way of truly enjoying it. Just like the old corolla right? good to know manual will be standard, but automatic is optional.

the article says it won't be available in japan first and everywhere else later (like what toyota usually does), instead it will be launched everywhere at the same time.

it also says they are putting "half the computing power" and his focus is to "eliminate computers as much as possible" so that not everyone can drive it, only experienced drivers can. so in regards to stability & traction control, it probably won't have any of those. however, one of the comments say that " As of 2012 all vehicles in the US are required to have ABS, stability control, tire pressure monitors (or run flats) and air bags." but i'm not sure how much of that is true. maybe the scion versions will be different from the rest.

no mention of mcpherson up front was said. it could be mcpherson or it could be double wishbone. he's not allowed to give actual specs. but for this to be a true handling car, it will need to have the double-wishbone up front imo. i'm glad to hear that this car will have the lowest center of gravity of any production car. when i think of it, it will closely resemble the handling of a go-kart.

After Tada’s initial admonition that we can talk about everything except specs and price, I didn’t have much hope for answers, but nonetheless, I tried. The following Q&A ensued:

“Can you tell me the weight?” “No.”

“Can you tell me the horsepower?” “No.”

“Can you tell me the weight distribution?” “No.”

“Can you tell me the price” “No. It will be affordable.”

“Suspension?” “McPherson, double wishbone.” And a smile.

It'll likely be some combination of McPherson and double wishbone from that comment. probably 1 in the front and the other in the rear.

oh ok thanks azain. it would be nearly impossible to fit double wishone in the front. None of the current sti carry double wishbone in front. We all know double wishbone is the best suspension geometry. Just like the s2000.

other neat things pointed out in the comments.
the mounting points for the engine will be standard subaru points, so you can start figuring out what you want to swap.

lets hope it doesn't come equipped with 20 inch rims from the factory. A bit big for a near 200ish hp car I would say.

It'll probably come equipped with 17s or 18s just like the tCs did/do.

Interesting that it's only slightly bigger than an MX5. I imagined it to be much closer to the size of a Genesis.

Genesis is a huge car..I love the fact that the frs is a small and sleek coupe. Reminds me of the 90s cars with a modern look.

I just saw a commentary on the FR-S on this show with that DOUCHEBAG Adam corolla, its called "The Car Show"....

the fact that they mentioned a toyota tuner car on SPEED CHANNEL, and their admittance that toyota ABANDONED OUR DEMOGRAPHIC speaks VOLUMES to the fact that this car is DEFINATELY not only going shake up the TUNER WORLD but the CAR SCENE AS A WHOLE.

IM SOLD NOW. OFFICIALLY.

If that has you sold then you should lurk the FT86club forums as they've pretty much gotten several first hand descriptions of what the car will look like.

I'm frustrated that it won't be until December that we get all the specs.
